Just a thought on if we will ever see solid QT Proxies that can be used without the fear of them bring problems for the "online".

Or are they only every just going to be for quick previews and we should just except that we need to transcode to Prores or the like for a solid editing workflow?

Proxies

Proxies

can i ask what problems you are having. we've been going the transcode to ProRes route, but would like to start using the QT proxies generated by the RED. have the problems been in offline or online or both?

The true problem is that the REALTIME DEBAYER is not fast enough to make editing with proxies a viable option in a professional environment.

You can have the fastest, drives, computers, software, whatever, but what we really need is for REDROCKET to interface with QT apps for Realtime and even then it would be better to work right off the R3D instead of through a QT proxy.

It's very complicated stuff, but it would be, to the RED workflow, what the lunar landing was to NASA.

I have used the proxy method to edit in FCP without any issues. I DID, however, run into issues when I sent the sequence to Color. I extracted the 4K images from the R3D files, but there seems to be a problem with some of the clips.

Some clips just appear as freeze frames and when I play them back, Color acts as though it is playing back the clip but it is only a still image. I thought this was just a playback issue so I rendered out the clip (Pro Res 422). The quicktime file only shows up as a freeze frame as well.

Why is this happening?

That's the color looping bug Chris. Well known issue.

How long is the project you are working on. Is this TV series, MOW. long form doc or personal stuff.

Wow. Thank you so much.

The project a student film. Its not referred to as a thesis film, but its the same caliber.

Thanks Again
