Sorry guys. I am a little confused. I have read a lot of posts that seem to imply that when our Stage 2 number comes up for our Epic delivery that we must pay the balance within a month?

Is this correct?

We have paid the $5000 deposit on stage 2. So when the Epic number comes up we must pay $14500 to cover the total $19000. Is it correct that there is any time limit on when this needs to be paid? If there is what is the penalty?

Thanks for your time

Thomas

When you drive a new car off the showroom floor you better have your financing in order no?

Thomas, I do not believe that is right -- you have 30 days to pay the balance WHEN YOUR EPIC IS READY for delivery -- in other days 30 days from when Red sends you the email that your Epic has been built. So I would suspect, at best, this is still a couple of months away. And maybe longer, depending on when your Red 1 was first delivered.

At least this is the way I understood it. Perhaps others can chime in. Or someone from Red will confirm or clarify if this is or is not the case.

The way I read and understand it is this:

You put your $5k for 5K money down.
RED holds it until they are ready to call you for delivery.
You get 30 days to pay the balance from the time they call you.
They ship when you pay the balance.

Going back to the RED One, you will also need to discuss:
-discounts if you have M-X'd your red One
-Accessories that are not included in the 19K
-shipping date

IF YOU DO NOT PAY THE BALANCE in 30 days

-you get your $5K for 5K money back
-you loose all opportunities for any current or future upgrade or stage.
-Stage 2 is an "all in" bet.

depending on when your Red 1 was first delivered.

No. There is no established order for shipping EPIC. If you are 758, then you do not automatically become EPIC 758.

This is yet to be determined by RED.

Anyone in stage 2 does not know where they are in line, that's up to RED.

RED has said that the shippingorder of the EPIC stage 2's is dependant on when the original RED was taken delivery of (not the SerialNumber...)

Yup, When you drive a car off the showroom floor you had better have your finance in order. However that is when you are driving it off the showroom floor and are able to immediately capitalise on said investment.

I just find it frustrating having that much money tied up doing nothing for a completely unknown amount of time. Lets face it, it could be 3 months to 9 months. A lot of kit I could make a return of the entire purchase in that time. As it stands the cash has to sit there on standby because one has only 30 days to pay from your surprise phone call.

I am sure everyone here (and even at RED) is sympathetic to your plight. But when you think about the advantages they are already providing, you can't be too upset (at least I would hope). After all, in Stage 2 you are getting an $8500 discount and several camera modules/accessories that any new purchaser would love to have. Maybe just look at your $5K as a hedge investment to lock in the value of all those other perqs. Those represent the return on your investment.

What sucks is, if everyone gets a 30 day window to "pay" the balance for the epic x stage 2 delivery and EVERYONE takes that 30 day window, it pushes the window of delivery far off into the distant future for the people who didn't buy RED ONE on day 1. :/ I hope all you people pay quick.

Whats the point of your complain ? You purchased a camera system 8500.- off list price and get a punch of modules included for free. Now you´re complaining about paying the balance within 30 days when your camera is ready to ship.
Well if you don´t like that, go ahead and stay in line for stage 4, pay 28.000 USD for the Brain and another 6000 or more USD for the modules which are included for free in stage 2.
Posts like this really pull the trigger, because the offer RED is giving to us is far beyond everything another Camera Manufacturer ever offered to his customers. And with a value of far over 10000 USD i even wouldn´t mind paying the whole thing in advance.

So shut up and be happy that RED is offering this to us.

PS: Aiden, i think Red will do it just like with the Red one shipping dates, if you paid early, your camera will ship in the first patch of your delivery group, and if you take advance of the 30 day payment, you´ll be in a later shipping batch. I payed my Red One prior to my shipping notification, and i got it shipped a couple days after i got the email blast for my delivery group, i hope they do it the same way with Epic.

I´m sorry if this sounds a bit rude, but as other allready said you better have a plan how to finance your car....

erm.... are you ok?

Yeah, I don't mind a $5000 deposit and also I am relatively happy with how the whole deal is constructed. It's just not great business having $19,000 doing sod all for an indeterminate amount of time because essentially you are paying up front for the whole thing since you basically have to have the money there on stand-by with no fixed date. The pressure would be off it it wasn't a fixed or forgo 30 days from a surprise phone call. Two months would be more manageable for sure.

What is difficult is that its a relatively large sum of money an indetermined date with no notice. I see absolutely no analogy with purchasing a car and having your finances in order because you have already bought the car and or have a fixed lead time. I suppose we will get some idea as to when things start rolling out but essentially you just have to keep the money on standby for up to a year. Its just not capital efficient.

My gripe fundamentally is the completely unknown lead time to my order. But hey... thats life.

Anyway, there is nothing we can do about it. I have my answer. I am pleased with the deal. So please don't all start pissing and moaning about how I am being ungrateful and how I should shut up. Some people on this forum can get so dull. I am just trying to run a business not a hobby and as such I am trying to keep informed.

Thanks

Thomas

No. I'd guess It's probably making some money. :)

Your deposit also guarentees the exact number of first run units that need to be made.

I bet GM (or any business) would love to have this kind of accuarcy and pre-payment on advance numbers for production.

I really admire RED for this business model and building this kind of trust and brand loyalty.

I can't think of any other business (except maybe being a lawyer where the money is in trust) that can operate this way.

I guess one of us is confused. :001_huh: Seems to me that by the time you pay your $19.5K, you will have a very finite period to wait as it means the camera is pretty much ready to ship. Like I said, maybe I got that wrong. Best of luck. I hope it works out well for you.

Keep in mind that Red are building these to order and DO NOT want to have a bunch of stock sitting there for months. So it's a pretty clear deal - we make it and you buy it as soon as it's ready, and we don't know exactly when that will be. That's Red and we love them for it!

If you want to look at the cash investment then let's look at it:

Even if you made 20% on your $14,500 cash investment that's $2,900. One would have to think you will make more than that in additional funds by having one of the few Epics in the world.

An early Epic is a better investment, even before the discount and free modules.

As for timing, have your money ready in August and be prepared that it may sit there for up to 8 weeks.

The only other alternative is not to order, and that would be the worst investment of all! :out:

Once Epic starts to ship you should get a good idea from your delivery date and the speed with which Epics roll out as to when you can expect to take delivery.

Your money would be free to do as it pleases until then no?

So it's by month?

Delivery date?

How does anyone know what the line up is?

Only RED knows. Everything else is a guess.
