I sent my camera package to an out of town shoot without getting a signed rental contract and the package came back with a damaged monitor. It needs to be replaced because the repair is more expensive than the price of a new monitor actually.

I realize this is my fault for not securing the necessary documents beforehand. It all happened so fast and a friend was involved. Once the cam package was on set, the producer did his best to avoid me.

Anyone have any experience with trying to get money out of a production in this kind of situation?

Do you have an email / confirmation of any sort that they took onboard the risk when they borrowed the equipment?

An email is (despite what many think) a legally binding document so long as it clear states the offer, the terms and the the acceptance of a deal.

Usually a good route to go down in leiu of an actual contract.

Mike,

Anecdotal advice on Reduser is fine, but really... go talk to an attorney. : )
