UPDATE: I have since discovered that there appears to be a fourth one out there, mine is sold, but this individual (also Located in the Los Angeles area) is looking to sell his, and asked that if got any further inquires I would send them his way... As I understand it is identical in every way except for the base unit (which was custom built for mine). So if there are any interested parties, just PM me...

Up for sale is a Matthews MC88 crane. I bought this about 5 years ago and I unfortunately have yet to use or rent it. I have a tendency to collect movie equipment but I'm afraid in this case, I got a little ahead of myself in that my regular job prevents me from actively pursuing rentals with this baby.

It is a great medium size crane & easy to set up. The rolling base was custom built by a race car chassis builder & has 2 or 4 wheel crab steering. It also comes with lead weights, a base for mounting to a wooden truck bed (photograph coming soon), and two additional sets of wheels (see photo below). The gray wheels are solid rubber wheels that can replace the current wheels for studio work if so desired, and the blue wheels were planed as track wheels with mounts that never got around to being built. I believe this crane to be one of only 3 made by Matthews Studio Equipment:

Camera can be set up either under or over slung mode. It does not come with a remote head, but you can pick one up real cheap here:

http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=31864 Edit: Price drop from $17,000 USD to $11,000 USD (Wow!)

The crane also comes with a custom built 14' x 7'6" trailer I had made with a roll on back gate, and can accomodate the crane pre-assembled with the dolly, base and main arm.

Here are some basic specs:

Reach (measured from centerpost to center of camera mount)
Min: 12'
Medium: 16’
Long: 20’
Full: 24’
Backswing: 7.5’

This item is located in the Los Angeles area and is available for immediate inspection/demonstration.

I have spent roughly $28,000 on this system. I dont fully expect to get I what I put into it, so I am willing to entertain any reasonable offers... & if you happen to know any key grips, feel free to pass it on ;)

EDIT: I am currently asking for $23,000 OBO

Thanks for looking!

I don't know the precise weight limit of the crane, but I can tell you it will handle anything you can throw at it, and after a little digging around thru some of the paperwork that came with the crane I found this (see image below):

"Note on weight capacity: The arm has been safety tested on loads far in
excess of normal operation. The long crane can accept any weight that can
be counter-balanced by the rear bucket with both saddle bags full... In practice,
this means that a Cam-Remote with a Panaflex and a 11:1 zoom will balance,
and this is within 50lbs of the balancing limit of the crane."
