  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tattoo out this month

I would imagine you'd want to keep most of the Tattoo development quiet- at least for the first month or so. It'd be like if we knew that a bunch of folks were running around with new iPhones. There would be a huge flood of unnecessary attention on these folks. They need to focus on solid, objective beta testing, not fulfilling our endless needs for still grabs and screen shots.

100% agree .. the calm before the storm

i think this summer will be a very exciting time

The Tattoo program could have been kept completely private. The selection process was by election only, field feedback is not for general consumption, and really provides no real barometer for the general population.

It's pretty clear that most information is now on a "absolute need to know basis".

i think steve gibby offering his very early REDs for sale 1-2 months may be a very good indication of where Tattoo is...

i cant imagine him not having a red

maybe it was contingent on EPIC release?? who knows .

Jarred has stated that "When Tattoo is out you will know about it..." or something like that.

I'm with Drew, hoping that this May timeframe for tattoo doesn't slip. I am in desperate need of an Epic for my project right now. :patriot:

You guys are so funny to think they would keep everything on the down-low about Epic Tattoos being out. If that were true it would be the first time Jim has ever kept anything this big under his hat. It just doesn't make any sense is all. Oh and BTW the people that own a RED camera and use it to make money would want the extra attention having an Epic Tattoo...at least I would. The attention I've gotten from having an MX'ed RED has been nothing but awesome.

Plus the idea of the Tattoo program is to get the camera out there beta testing and you do that out on a set or in the wild. Testing like that doesn't take place in a vacuum. So why would it be kept secret is all I'm trying to say. RED shares information remember, they aren't Sony, Panasonic or Canon.

Today is totally different time then three or four years ago for example.

Especially with shaky global economy and also RED competition that some of them have got a bit "aggressive"

creating a sort of "bad air" around RED project in general especially at a certain professional circles.

You could read about it on the another boards...

Jim already reported about it here before or after NAB if I can remember well.

That's was a main reason that security was pretty tight at RED Day in Vegas according to the reports here.

So today it's not so easy for RED to play exactly the same game as it was before.

The rules of the game are (definitely) changed now.

People should see and understand that.

I think this is the closest speculation of what the truth might be. RED are pretty quick to share big news. We have only just recently seen some internal stills from EPIC. Very doubtful they are "out in the wild". Although I'd be happy to be wrong. :-)

Oh I remember Terry. RED already has me as a life long customer and I'm more than happy to wait for Epic. I was just saying that the Tattoo program more than likely hasn't started yet.

but theres proof Epic has been used since January ..

That is very true. But still, I'll believe that Epic Tattoos are out in the wild when either I see it here in Recon or with my own two eyes around LA.

What proof ?

Red has posted images from prototypes, but I don't call that in use.

The new M-X sensor is being used yes, but Epics out in the wild, I'm not so sure...

Cheers,
Damien
