OK, I'll cut to the chase. The Aussie dollar is in freefall and every day that Epic gets more expensive. Do we have the option of paying the balance early to get the best exchange rate or must we wait until our unit is ready to ship and take our chances?

Yeah, I know, it's a gamble either way, but with the option we could maybe act on some sage advice. Thanks.

Not trying to cue jump or get our camera earlier. I mean, I would if I thought that would work...

Here in Canada you can open up a USD account... can you do the same sort of thing? That way it would lock in the exchange rate.

My thought is that once things settle down in Europe a little both our dollars will recover... the only thing driving people to the USD is fear... at least I hope =)

Edit: Actually HSBC Australia has USD accounts: http://www.hsbc.com.au/1/2/personal/savings/foreign-currency

Just conjecturing here but... I assume RED wants payment in US dollars. Can't imagine they wouldn't take your money as soon as you want to give it to them. Aren't they already accepting whatever payment you want to make for Stage 2?

Why don't you just put the money in your account at RED now? You'll lose any interest on it in the interim, but it wouldn't be affected by the drop you are describing. I don't think RED would have a problem with that one bit.

Definitely just deposit the money into RED account or make a payment by credit card to RED and it will give you a credit balance in USD using current exchange rate. RED account is probably safer than many banks right now. Hah! ;)

Correct, people can deposit money into their RED account at any time. Just contact your BOMB SQUAD rep...

Thanks everyone. I've just contacted Charles, our Bomb Squad rep, about the amount we currently have on account. I'll consult with our economic gurus about any further action, although the way the dollar is falling it may all be too late anyway.

I never was much good at chess.:confused5:

The Aussie dollar will be volatile until there is some certainty about the mining sector 'Super Tax'. Read an article today by a financial analyst who said if the tax goes ahead, mining will be taxed in real-terms at a rate of about 56%. Even though the tax is not planned to take effect until 2012, it's feared the move will kill the goose that's laying Australia's golden eggs for many years to come. An interim solution may be to buy US dollars now via an online foreign currency exchange service like Ozforex. You can buy the US now and wire it to Red when ready.
