To all you folks living in Las Vegas:
I desperately need a break from the things that surround me here in New York, so I'm seriously considering packing up and relocating to Vegas, at least for a year; after that, we'll see. I'd appreciate very much any advice as to what locations are good to live in, and what locations I should avoid if I wanna find an appropriate place for a creative type. I'm looking to rent an apartment in a peaceful area where I can find inspiration. Thanks in advance.

Hello Jaadgy,

I've got a friend who lives there but who is traveling at the moment, If I can hook up with him, I'll ask.

But mostly I know from a lot of friends who occasionally work there that Vegas is still deep in the recession. I believe they have the highest unemployment of any city in the US. They have been trading that honor with Flint Michigan.

Good news, real estate is cheap. Not so good news, work is hard to find.

Best of luck,

Steve

I'm in a similar situation. I have a few questions for you and sent you a PM.

Thanks Stephen and Ketch for your replies. Oh man, I had no idea how high the unemployment rate in Vegas was. Seeing what you guys had to say, and waht other people have told me, I'm starting to realize that the only alternative for people like me is either New York or LA. Being such a die hard New Yorker, I think only LA could give me that "things are happening here!" feeling that I need at all times.
Ketch, don't even tempt me with that offer, 'cause I might just take you up on it...lol By the way, I had no idea you had returned to LA.

Thanks guys; it looks like it's gonna be LA instead of Vegas.

cheers!

He he, actually I'm about one hour and a half from LA in Riverside county, 15 minutes from Lake Forest Red HQ ;~)

I looked for a place in LA but my Doctors did not allow me to get a place in the city so I got one in Gorgeous Canyon Hills a fraction at the very Edge of Lake Elsinore, and Canyon Lake.

The house is too big for me alone, and since my brother and sister changed their mind about coming here from Italy, instead of having couple of girls in here driving me crazy,
I tough the possibility to get couple of Redusers as Roommates in stead, same gear, same passions, could work well for future projects and get good work.

Hey Ketch, I'm moving in!

I wish....

I have my own health issues and am stuck in Mass. because of the state health care. But once the universal coverage goes into effect, I'm there!

Sorry to hear you are not well Curran, but now you know the possibility of a place in Cali ;~)

Heheh that would be ne crazy melting pot of talent in one house.
Would be awesome actually.

Yes Jay, more and more after my Little sister told me She will not be moving to the US, I'm thinking of creating exactly that, and opportunity to bring together few talents and gear to take on any Job, and self create some cool and radical projects as well.

Well guys both of you, Jaadgy and Robert, if you do need a real brake I got a Huge 5 BDR house here in California and I would not mind sharing it with few fellow Redusers and get some serious good work going on.

Hmmm..... this has got me thinking. Ketch, I'll get back to you on this. As you know, I'm ready for some serious changes...

I'll give you a call in a day or so.

Hey Curran, I see you did some work for Mitchell in Wainscott. Where you around there when the WGA was picketing? What a f**king nightmare that was.

i love all this freindship between filmmakers. Makes me glad about the desision to move forward in this field knowing what (well mostly) what kind of ppl make up this industry. Ketch are you aquainted with robert and jaadgy? if you arent im astonished at your willingness to invite ppl to your home. good on ya

I wasn't in NY. We worked up here in The Berkshires, MA and just used ftp to transfer files.

Cool. I knew a couple of guys who would drive home on the weekends. I think Jim was from way upstate NY kind of near you.

You didn't miss much with the picketers except a friend of mine was arrested for trying to run one of them over!

I've learned, after having been screwed pretty bad, that the character of the person you get involved with trumps whatever else they bring to the table.

So my approach to fellow film people begins there.

There are "producer" jokes around for a reason!

Here's one: How do you know a producer is lying to you?
Answer: Their mouth is open!

I'm not cynical, just cautious.

Send me a PM with your questions, and I will give you the scoop from a Las Vegas native.

Jaadgy, did you get a chance to read the PM I sent to you? Although I'm not sure it's relevant still.
