You have to pay for the upgrade, don't know if you have to wait your turn.

All cameras shipping now have the "old" sensor. You will get invited to upgrade to the M-X sensor when your turn is up, which might be several months from now. You'd have to pay for the upgrade.

Only once all prior cameras are upgraded, will RED offer M-X RED Ones.

Hmmm I didn't know that. I thought RED One would be discontinued after Epics and Scarlets were out.

And what would the price of the M-X RED One, $17,5K + Upgrade price?

Yep. At the moment we are kind of in no-man's land. With Epic arriving in a few months, the MX upgrade, and Scarlets following, decisions have become much more complicated!

Yes, new R1 MX is R1 price + MX upgrade price. When all upgrades are complete Red has suggested it will be selling MX R1s new, but that could change...

:crazy:Dilemma! Decisions are becoming tougher to make.

Noah, how does that make any difference. Even if a used one is bought it might be a couple grand less at the most. But its true that some people are prefering to wait for the Mysterium X to be released.

why can't new red one that comes out have a MX on it. I understand that prior cameras needs to be upgraded. but it's not like we're going to abandon them altogether.

Let the upgrades take place in one facility and simultaneously have a new REDs with MX come out. Red can give a 2 more options on that.

OPTION 1 - Customers who want new RED ONE with 'old' sensor can get them for 17.5k
OPTION 2 - Customers who want new RED ONE with MX, can get them for 17.5k plus
upgrade price.

C.A. - logistically, no problem. From a customer loyalty standpoint, we want to make sure early RED ONE adopters get a chance to get the sensor in their cameras first before a new customer could get a new RED ONE with an M-X sensor.

Understood. But, RED's main 'interest' in this business is to equip the filmmakers with the best imaging technology that it can put out. i can understand that the first 100 customers can be called 'early adopters'. maybe the first 1000 customers called 'early adopters'. but beyond that 1000 mark, everyone had a good deal on the 4k camera because there is no 'risk' in buying a RED ONE after that point.

This is the best time to go for OPTION 2 because this is a TRANSITION period. A transition to EPIC system. By having the OPTION 2, early red owners are directly benefiting from it.

If the current frequency of MX upgrade is 200 per month, keep that figure, don't change it.
Just order 50+ more MX sensor for new RED ONE MX. If the new order for RED ONE MX drops, due to arrival of EPIC system, use the 50+ or so sensors for the upgrade program.

Apple had done this all the time with it's laptop products. And they have millions of customers, who keeps coming back for more. Because people can understand this kind of things.

Fixing a new RED ONE with MX early on, save time and $ in shipping back and forth. i'm sure the 'early adopters' could cut some slack for new owners. can't Jim or anyone have a poll on this matter? If it's too 'sensitive' to the 'early adopters' than there can be a NO GO.

well.. im number 1015... my money was in on that october 31st deadline in 2006...

that was the "early adopter" cut off oct 31st, 2006...

RED has played a fair game ever since the start..

loyalty to customers, support, and overall great people.

If in the current system puts your upgrade to MX sensor 1 week from now, you are STILL going to get the upgrade 1 week from now. NOTHING is going to change. So why is the worry?

It's just that, when a new guy buys a RED ONE he has the OPTION to upgrade it to MX in the factory itself and no need to reship back and forth for the swap.

RED ONE camera is a electronic product. and there is natural progression for electronic products.

in 2001 the ipod had 10GB
in 2002 20 GB
in 2003 40 GB

but the price of 40 GB was equivalent to 10GB model in 2001.Things get faster, bigger, cheaper.

by not giving the new owner a 'faster', 'cheaper' and better product, you are going against the natural cycle.

Many of us don't want RED to become that 'other' company. At least, not yet. I, for one, vote that we all wait the appropriate turn in line. It is --what it is, at this juncture.

Will there be price difference between the Red one which has been upgraded to MX Versus the fresh Red one MX.

What happens to the sensor of the upgraded Red ones.

What might be the price differences between the
Upgraded Red one
Fresh Red1 MX--------well actually we need to know just this one
Epic
