Hi,

I think our red fan is dead. It doesn't come on in any setting hot-variable. and theres a strange ticking noise like a clock coming from the body? does this mean its dead ?

can i still continue to shoot with a dead fan? will it wreck the body?

anyone know what the turn around time is for repairing a R1 fan? (i'm posting from singapore)

thanks in advance, any info is very much appreciated

why do people keep posting issues here .

STEP 1

File a Support Ticket with RED.

STEP 2. If and ONLY IF RED fails to solve the problem. THEN file a complaint in the complaint section... not in RED GENERAL.

thanks and good luck. Write to RED support and I promise you will get EXCELLENT service

DONT USE THE CAMERA,
the camera will work, but having no working fan leads to melting damages on the processor board and then it will be expensive.

Hi Jason,

Yes the fan is out. The clicking that you are hearing is most likely the fan attempting to spin but being blocked by a cracked housing. The same thing happened to us back in December when receiving the camera back from a rental. Apparently the person renting it screwed a base plate into the bottom of the camera that had a longer bolt and that actually cracked the fan housing. Sounds like you may have had a similar situation.

Anyhow at the time we just sent the camera back to Red and they turned it around in a few days... no big deal. I would second what Cüneyt says and don't use the camera... especially now that the weather is getting warmer.

Best,

Omar

Actually - what Omar said, but try unscrewing your RED bottom plate and checking that you haven't still got a longer than usual bolt interfering with the fan.

True... no big deal, just a fan.
But you are in California... and he is in Singapore. And Red is in California. And Red will not allow anyone opening the camera to change or simply to clean the fan, otherwise you loose warranty, right to upgrades, etc... the camera has to cross half Planet Earth to have a fan changed... or just cleaned up. Not very different for me, as I´m in Argentina.
