Hey,

Is Libec LS38 Tripod still the best ~$600 tripod for Scarlet?

Is there any other strongly recommended contenders in the same price area?

Thanks

We've got one, and it's really great for the price. Would be nice to have adjustable balance/drag, but the default is pretty good, and you don't tend to get a good adjustable drag unless your head is ~$1000+...

It's definitely better than the similarly priced Manfrotto tripods I've used.

Look at the LS-58 - it does have adjustable drag.

Terry, LS-58 ? Do you mean 55? I can't find 58...

(I just ordered my Glidecam today by the way.)

The Manfrotto 519 head/525MVB combo isn't so bad. Fully adjustable drag and exchangeable/adjustable springs for different cam weights up to 10 kilos.

Quite happy with it.

Cheers, Frank

The LS-55 is almost 3 times the price of LS-22...

I thought the initial comparison was with the LS-38, not the 22. And from my memory (and it has been about 2+ years since I bought it) the 55 was not all that much more than the 38. I can tell you that I paid well under $1K for the sticks and head together. Could be that prices have shifted. I haven't checked lately.

EDIT: A quick check at B&H has the 38 at about $600 and the 55 at $900. DIfferent, but still pretty affordable, I think.
