having trouble mounting 2 red drives at same time to mac pro. I'll get one mounted then connect the other and when I do that (both hooked up with red wall wart power supplies) the other one unmounts and then there are no drives mounted. Anyone get 2 drives to mount on a 2009 macpro?

help??

Correct--you can't--easily, that is. Some Red savant DITs like Brooke Willard have custom build rigs that can do it. But for off-the-shelf setups, it's one drive at a time if you're using FW800.

One can use FW800 and the other can use USB 2.0 but both can't be connected to FW800 at the same time with a standard MacPro

If both drives are formatted and named the same, the Mac Pro may not be able to boot both drives at the same time.

I am not sure about the Red Drives, but this is not the case in OSX with drives with the same volume name in general. When it mounts them, it will actually mount them with an appended number in /Volumes, but they will still show up as the same exact name in the Finder.

So if you had two drives that were named Stuff, you'd see:

/Volumes/Stuff
/Volumes/Stuff 1

Rick is correct. Doesn't matter what they are named, and can still be used if the name is the same.

I don't have multiple drives here to test with. In fact, I don't own any RED drives anymore... Down to one RED RAM and a ton of CF cards. Although, I seem to recall having this issue and the solution was to connect each drive to an independent Firewire host. But it also seems that someone else posted in this thread or other related thread that adding another FW800 host adapter didn't solve the problem? Weird...
