Have been shooting for about a week now on a feature with build 30. Haven't had any problems, then today the camera decides to not give us video out.

I have gone through the options of what it could be. I took off the breakout box and tried the RED issued mini BNC to BNC adapter and still nothing. I tried plugging a separate camera into the monitor to make sure the problem wasn't in the monitor. I got a video feed from the other camera.

I then tried re-installing Build 30 thinking some how it could possibly be the build messing up. Still nothing.

I have come to the conclusion that it is a hardware issue in the HD-SDI outputs on the red. I just don't get how over night they could stop working.

Does anyone have any other idea's on what could be the problem. I am hoping it isn't the latter. Since we still have 2 weeks left on this movie...

ANY and ALL suggestions much appreciated.

HD-SDI output

Danny, verify what the PREVIEW (which is the HDMI and HD-SDI outputs ) is set to

Is it VIDEO (720p) or is it MENUS(DVI ) - if it is the latter, change it back to 720p.

To access this press SYSTEM men button then MONITOR then PREVIEW

It is set to 720p preview. Oh also to just confirm I tried 3 separate BNC cables all of which were working fine the day before.

Posted in another thread but taking advantage of the relevance of this :) :

is there any way to display the histogram (and obviously all the information in this bottom bar) in an SDI monitor from the camera?

although this doesn't have any relevance to my problem I will help you out.

the only way to send info from the camera to an external monitor is to unplug either the On Board monitor or the EVF viewfinder. the camera only outputs the screen info to two at a time and it favors those two first.

That's the only way I know of. Now hopefully you have a solution to my problem :)

what you say is not a solution :) (at least in this case) nor what may i suggest about your problem.

By the way... are you using the Element Technica Video Break Out Box?

I'm assuming this is a privately owned camera or else you would be talking to the rental house instead of asking here. It might be an improper grounding issue interacting with that pasticular camera, if possible, try to run your monitor off a battery. What monitor are you using?

What is the SN on the camera?

the monitor I am using is the Panasonic 17" BT-LH1710. I Don't have a battery adapter for the monitor unfortunately. But I have come to the conclusion that it is either the video out board on the camera has stopped working or both HD-SDI inputs on the monitor have stopped working. I can't figure out which is more likely.

Because when i said in my original post that i tried another camera in the monitor, I was plugging into the sd video input with a Canon SLR.

the serial number is in the high 4000's.

The camera has 3 hdsdi outputs. Those inputs do sometimes crap out and that is a much more likely cause than the camera's outputs dumping. Try getting a new monitor before you try getting a new camera.

is it logical that if one gives out they all do. because obviously i have tried plugging into all three and going to monitor. none of them give a video feed.

i agree i should try another monitor just to make sure. the only problem is I don't have another one to try out.

i am stuck in AZ where the camera houses are far and few in between.

Sure the source of the video out is the same but they seperate at a point and are different outputs, different wires, so there could be a problem with 1-2 of them while the 3rd still works. It depends on where the problem is it could be the connectors not the board.

Work on getting a new monitor first. If it still doesn't work, then you can blame the camera. A new monitor is much easier to do than a new camera, so start there.

copy that. i will try and find a rental house that has one of these monitor's before call tomorrow to hopefully figure out the problem. thanks for the suggestion.

Just out of interest in the monitor menu what have you got the Refresh set to - 50 Hz or 59.94 Hz (I'm assuming it should be 59.94 Hz for you)?
