Hi - sorry if this is in the wrong area.

I'm having an issue trying to preview R3D reference .movs on my G5 in quicktime.

I've downloaded the latest red codec but all I get is a black screen that runs the duration of the clip

It works ok on my macbook at home (both running tiger 10.4.11) so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what the difference is.

thanks.

You can't do this on a G5. All the R3D tools and plugins, including the QuickTime plugin, require an Intel CPU.

Hi, thanks for the reply

EDIT: It is a G5. b+++++ks.

After looking at the build rather than the box it came in it turns out to be a quad core G5 power PC. No R3d-iting for me then.....

I'll have to try it on the macbook. I predict epic render times.

Hello,

I have encountered the same problem (black screen, but running through the entire clip; no problem when playing on camera), although I am trying to play it on an Intel processor and have downloaded the newest quicktime codec. Does anyone have an idea why that could happen?

Any fast answer is highly appreciated since we're in the middle of a shoot and I'm a slightly stressed out that there is something wrong with the material...!

Thanks so much! Ina

Thanks for the quick answer :-)!

I have to admit I haven't tried RED Cine (catching up on it now), but the same thing happens when I open it with REDAlert. Also REdrushes fails to convert it...

I've noticed that this problem will occur if you're trying to view the proxy with Apple's 'Quickview.' (a feature in 10.5 & 10.6 where you press the spacebar to view a file quickly without opening it in a application) If you double click the proxy file and open it in Quicktime, you should be able to see it properly.

@Noah: I've tried to run it in REDCine but the problem remains the same. I kind of get the feeling that the material is corrupted, i.e. that something went wrong while recording. But it seems so strange since we can view it on the camera. Also the files have a "real size", so it doesn't look like there is any damage there.

@Brandon: Thanks for the tip! but I have tried everything but Quickview actually ;-)

Cheers, Ina

Hi. I jost had a shooting today and have exactly the same problem. Any help will be so much appreciated. This had never happened to me before. In camera I can see it Ok. I Quicktime no neither anything quicktime based or from RED.

I had this problem...
First try to open in redcine, to make sure it isn't just the proxies.
In my case it has been corrupt frames at the beginning of the clip that caused playback and conversion failure.
The guess is that it is up to offloading the Media...
Check all your Fire Wire Cables, switch to another CF Card reader, etc.
And please let me know if this fixes the problem, because many users seem to have the same problems at the Moment.
