Exclamation ARCTIC X EVF Heater Ships Next Week!

It's been a long time coming, but the Arctic X Shield, an electronic EVF heater for the RED Camera, begins shipping next week!

The website is up and running:

www.arcticX.net

There are a lot of features in this thing, and we'll add cool stuff as we go along, but we're finally ready to roll this out.

We expect this should help in the following:
  • Allows the EVF to work in below freezing temps (base model) or sub zero temps (endurance model)
  • It's light weight and complete coverage serve as additional protection for the EVF from bumps and hits
  • It should help increase the EVFs resale value when it comes time to upgrade to the Bomb EVF

That should make it a win / win for everyone!

Let me know if you have questions!

Jay Kelley

Congratulations, Jay.

It looks like a well thought out and nicely constructed product.

Good luck to you.

For those of us in countries where those two statements mean the same thing (i.e. the ones in green on this map) could you put that in Celsius terms?

Happy too.. And i need to do this on the website also.. Thanks for bringing it up.

The base model is tested too: -16c
The endurance model is tested too: -20c

It's important to note two things:

1: Each model may actually do BETTER than tested. We used a freezer to test ours. (We expect the endurance model to do a LOT Better)
2: Every base model CAN BE TURNED INTO AN ENDURANCE MODEL by purchasing an additional heating element, battery pocket, and batteries. It's a little more expensive going that way vs buying the endurance model up front, but the neat thing is you are not STUCK with one model or the other. They are interchangeable. That said, an endurance model can also be down-modded to a base model if you find you do not need the additional heat.

Because the unit is so damn light, it really does not matter what you put on it.

Does this help?

Jay

Sorry about the Celsius thing.. I'm not that bright! I really do need to make this change on the website.. Thanks!

Absolutely mate, I'm surprised the base one goes as low as -16C!

... and sorry about being so obtuse; I've been aching to use that chart somewhere :)

Just a quick note:
The endurance model of the Arctic X has FAR surpassed our expectations. In fact some care needs to be used in just how much heat you turn on. The EVF can get pretty hot (No there is no danger to it)

Thanks SO MUCH Peter... Truth be told, when we tested these things, we were VERY VERY conservative. I thought the units would do FAR better than my testing showed, but it felt more responsible to let the people ACTUALLY USING the Arctic X's say how well they work... Not me.
