Hey Pawel, have you ever considered "frame averaging" or "frame compounding" on motion picture footage to achieve super clean, noise free images for stills? This is much more powerful than long exposures because it removes any temporal sensor noise or temporal compression noise. (You'll need a compositing system like flame, shake or after effects.)

Hey now that I think of it, frame compounding would be a kick ass tool to offer in Redcine-X for super clean, full resolution stills use.

Now I'm drooling wildly at the possibilities that Epic is going to give us. As long as you guys have a 15-20 second exposure setting in that new timelapse mode I will be really happy.

that's a very good idea.

i've used frame averaging a lot just by taking multiple stills (works for scenes with extremely little or no motion). it's been around for awhile. this is what the sweet space telescopes like the hubble use. seriously reduces noise. highly recommended.

*for stills output you don't need flame or shake or anything. you can do it in photoshop pretty easily with layers (but each layer opacity for each layer needs to be equally balanced)

for example, layer opacity should be (starting at the bottom) 1/1, 1/2, 1/3, 1/4... (100%, 50%, 33.33%, 25%...) and on it goes 1/(n+1) where n = previous layer

Very impressive!

Is this the new sensor in your Red One camera?

I'm available to beta test that new sensor in my Red One if you need another opinion!

I'm pretty sure Jim's shooting at 1/48sec.
I hope it was a 1/24 or 1/48sec Exposure.

Thanks

I turned off all the lights in the garage and lit the candle. Best I can tell is this is ISO 4000.

The boys are going to yell at me again for posting this because they still aren't done. It won't be the last time...

Hi Jim,

Any idea where the 'purple' flame comes from?

Best

Fearless. Don't you have 'purple' flame jokes in the UK?

No Idea, it's 15 years since I lived in the UK, I don't remember any so if there were any they weren't that funny.
