Default ultimate ONSET and 4k editing laptop!

You guys may want to checkout the HP EliteBook 8730w with the DREAMCOLOR screen, 8gigs of RAM and a QUADCORE cpu for your onset and away-from-home machine for R3D files. Just got 2 of them and they are monsters!

REDCINE: 1/2 in realtime!
Premiere cs4: almost realtime in 1/4 res, thats 1k editing away from home! it drops just a few frames ..very usable...1/8 it never drops

It has ESATA that's fast as hell for editing from a ESATA drive, and the best part is using the FIREWIRE and ESATA to copy so the buss does not get overloaded.

Dreamcolor screen totally ROCKS..I am so sold on this laptop screen that I would never go back to a standard screen. they are that amazing. pure, bright, uniform. nuff said. gotta see one to get an idea of what your missing on a standard LCD.

Ok, just wanted to let the folks know since before this I was on a Dell and could not even get realtime at 1/4 in RedCine.

Sounds like a great machine. Particularly because it has esata and the dreamcolor built in. I'd be interested in comparing the performance of the R2E LEMO to eSATA cable with a this built-in esata port vs one of the many express card adapters...

Is the dreamcolor screen one of the new LED dynamic backlight screens that HP is building?

Their new LED monitors exceed 100% of Adobe RGB and NTSC color gamut.

Yes it is..at first I thought it was WHITE LED backlight only but HP informed me that it's the same thing as the big professional screen...I am looking at them both right now..BTW the laptop has HDMI out and the HP 24inch LP2480zx Dreamcolor has HDMI in..nice! Anyway they look the same using the same color space...
I wondered if they would match and they do! This means that editing and color work can be done in a dark space with the laptop if that's all you had access to on the road. cool.

Yea that would be a fancy test! let me know if you get one and try it!

I forgot about that xpress slot..you could get 2 Esata connections and FLY faster then light with that setup! very cool indeed.

This thing is pretty much a full on workstation..First laptop I have ever owned that performs like a workstation. I am personally loving it...no longer does it feel like I can't work away from the "big box" at all...it also has a Nvidia Quadro card for such apps as Scratch and or things like the application for CS4 that speeds up rendering..for it's name at the moment...

Cs4 is working really well using the HDMI to display the Program Monitor on the 24inch screen...again, nice because after a render I can now see full quality R3d files on a big screen with good color that matches the LCD on the laptop.

I checked the prices, surprisingly cheap for such a powerful laptop. Under $1500!

I configured it and it came out to be over 5k...Obin, what do you exactly have in your machine/Laptop?

Detail breakdown of components.
