Wow. Is anyone else watching these moco shots of Chuck Todd on NBC news in HD? They have him in some kind of virtual green-screen studio with these sweeping crane shots, comping him into a virtual background with a bunch of Greek columns, a rotating floor, and an epic night skyline. Amazing technology. It just jumps off the screen in HD. I only recently got an HDTV and this coverage is blowing me away. The overhead crowd shots of Obama's gathering crowd in Chicago look gorgeous.

I saw one so called "holographic" interview with Will-I-Am and it was ONLY with two static shots - front and rear whith some dizzy videofilter - what a blsht!!! And they even couldn't get it right if its more ST or SW style - bah it was rubbish :bleh: edit: I saw other one which wasn't static, but it still looks crappy

Or at other times, they will distort what actually happened to make a better story (e.g. sensationalism). If you think about, virtual sets for news is a little weird because they aren't real. Whereas the news is supposed to be about, you know, the real world. In a way, they're trying to trick you into thinking it's real and put in signs of credibility (e.g. we have a whole news room behind us!). Anyways I'll stop derailing this thread. :P |

Tom-
To address your comments - yes, the virtual set was amazing - the best I've seen in realtime. http://www.newscaststudio.com/blog/2...new-3d-studio/ No mention of the actual system used but my bet is the ORAD system from Israel. they have led the pack for a while. Great stuff, though. Keith Probably the Israeli system |

I suspect CNN's 'holograms' were simply greenscreen video composites. I'm certain Wolf B wasn't standing there looking at the projected image we saw. Really it was just two motion control systems with their moves synced together, which is impressive enough. Calling it a hologram?!? Not so sure about the truthiness of that.
I think CNN added the crappy video edges and motion stutter for dramatic effect, just like they used to add a green night-vision look and tracer bullets to Wolf's war zone reporting! |

Adobe Ultra can do some of this stuff on the cheap. It's actually pretty cool.
