Default RED 18-50mm storage

Should it be stored with the lens facing up, down or with the body parallel to the ground? I'm asking this question due to my lens being locked at 25mm and was never dropped, bumped or anything. I have a feeling that it's due to the way it was stored with the lens facing down in the case. I know many others are having this issue. Sucks that I will have to send it to get repaired after the warranty as expired.

I know a specimen that locks up like this, and then unlocks itself again mysteriously.

Yup.

I think it may be a transportat issue...

I'm going to store it with the lens facing up in the hopes that somehow it will unlock itself. I read the Ketch Rossi thread on how to store lenses and followed the advice there.... not sure if storing zooms with the lens facing down is applicable to the RED 18-50.

Sounds to me like a follower in the zoom was knocked out of place. Im sure RED can fix this. Don't try to force it any as this could exaggerate the problem. It's usually pretty safe to store the lens face up. But no matter how well it is stored, it (and the case) should always be handled with care.

Anyone experienced this before (out of warranty) and send it in to RED to be fixed? I'm curious to know how much they charged to fix it.
