No audio on playback on 3.2.21, is this normal?

In between shoots I'm testing out my Epic and decided to give audio another try (I had given up on it last year)
On latest release build 3.2.21.

-I can successfully plug into port 1 and get a visible signal
-I can audibly hear in my headphones (via the headphone jack under the brain) the live audio
-I can listen to the audio after pulling the takes onto my Mac, they sound fine.
-I can NOT hear audio on playback.

Is this normal?

To get audio playback, you gotta go beta: build 3 v3.3.3

ah, ok cool. thanks! I wont worry now. Funny that that's still not release yet.

all this talk of audio on playback , and there is no audio on playback yet. frustrating.
