Switched over from Apple and looking for the best format for delivering to Adstream.

Any suggestions besides ProRes for the best look?

Finishing up in AE looks like this is the only option:

    DVCPro100 (.MOV)
    Video:
    • codec: DVCPRO HD 1080i50
    • size: 1920 x 1080 (PAL)
    • field: 1080i (Upper/Top field first)
    • FPS: 25
    Audio:
    • codec: PCM (uncompressed)
    • channels: stereo
    • bitrate: 16bit, little endian
    • sample rate: 48kHz

Dvcpro was fine for back in the day but I'm not sure thats the best option. It's a pretty lossy compression codec for today's standards.

    that is what I thought.

the only other options for adstream are ProRes and
    XDcam50.

    Well for HD at least

I was going to say, all TVC delivery is SD for broadcast... Sad but true.

Just saw this post ...maybe WAY to late.............. anyway...maybe for the future......

For Adstream H264 is fine at optimum settings @16 x 9 . It's a while since I've used them because Dubsat are so much easier & cheaper. Anyway some where in the Adstream tech specs are screen snapshots of how to arrive at the correct H264 specs for broadcast in P.C. land ie Avid. Seriously though, save your self a tonne of grief & signup to Dubsat, charge the client the same dollars make money on the difference.

P.S. & Yes at the moment, everything is being delivered at SD resolution & even that's questionable given the great Aussie resolution swindle of multi channelling : P !

Is it? It only costs about $50 to deliver a TVC via AdStream, how much is DubSat? I always thought DubSat was much more expensive.

Yeah, H264 using around 15,000kb/s is fine. Creates a 40MB or so file which is very manageable. If you have a top shelf TVC you may want to baby it more along the way but for the majority of material, all good.

Dubsat recently, last month, increased their prices per release dub to $45.00 plus GST. Previously they were $40 a dub plus GST, for me anyway.

Adstream charge $46 +GST per dub. However just to save a buck isn't why I prefer Dubsat.

Adstream charge for re-sends $45, multiple dubs multiple charges....dubsat dont. Got in a situation with 7BCM (everyone knows what a nightmare they can be) having to do mutliple resends due to a supposed error in some US Animation (another story but every other station in the nation ran the same TVC no problems ) . If I had sent with Adstream would've made that nightmare that much sweeter.

Then the real killer is their release dub rate on Cable. Send anything to Fox costs $75 + GST, dubsat $45 + GST ...Anything O.S. like Disney $150 per dub +GST, dubsat $70 (i think ).......NZ. $70 or a $100 +GST....Dubsat $45 + GST. Multiple release dubs multiple charges quickly add up with Adstream.

Other Adstream drawbacks. Overnight delivery files must be uploaded by 5pm, on Dubsat 9pm. Adtream insist on 15 secs of clapper at head of TVC and 3 secs of black at end (ala old ON AIR tape broadcast standard) WTF! In the 21st century this is a waste of upload time. Dubsat require just the TVC 15, 30,45,60 duration & a JPEG Snapshot of the clapper. Again multiple uploads using the Adstream workflow increase your upload times significantly & workload.

Having said that Adstream rate for Red Hot delivery or 4 hour delivery are cheaper than Dubsat. So I guess it pays to know what you need & the differences between the 2, then choose accordingly.

    Rant over......hope this helps.
