Hi Guy's Events have conspired to keep me from attending Cinegear and NAB the last 2 years and I was wondering if anybody had and thoughts on what was the best head worn camera rig ? Smaller sensor ( like 2/3" ) would help in this case. Not especially budget sensitive, and looking for better quality and much more control than something like a go-pro or a contour. HDSDI output would be helpful too.

Has anyone use the SI-2k Nano ? What are some of the better cube cameras out there ? Any opinions on sweet C-Mount lensing ?

    Thanks,
    Matt Uhry

I created a helmet-cam rig a few weeks ago using a motorcycle helmet and several clamp arms/weights. Here is a photo of it

I used a T2i for the camera, because of its high quality sensor (same as 7D) whilst still maintaining low weight and the Tokina 11-16mm ultra-wide as my glass. The ultra provides a slightly distorted field of view at 11mm which I think works great at replicated the field of view of the human eyes. On top of that I had a teradek cube to wirelessly monitor the camera from an iPad - the whole thing worked out great and I would highly recommend something similar.

    Matt,

I just did a helmet mount shoot with the Si2k. It was not the smallest nano that uses c-mount lenses but the one i think that is called the si2k mini. It takes PL lenses. We used mostly a 9.5 and 12mm optar (illumina) because we were matching another part of the shoot done in the UK. I had no choice in camera or lenses but it was a fun experience to play with the rig. In L.A., Radiant Images have the whole setup and Nick over there is really knowledgable and helpful. My main caveat is that the REC709 viewing LUT is pretty hideous. The camera still has pretty clippy highlights- probably a bit better than the GoPro in terms of DR (although GoPro with technicolor cinestyle loaded in I don't know how it would compare). I think a better image still than GoPro and a more robust system with more controllable options. Recording on the Cinedeck Extreme in Cineform Uncompressed RAW was pretty easy. PM me if you want more info.
