Hi Everyone! I just finished my first RAW R3D edit project on Premiere CS6. It was quite a difference working with the native R3Ds and being able to do color adjustments all the way through the editing process! I loved it!

However I have a question for those of you who have already been down this path... how do you export the final movie from Premiere using the R3D raw files to a final deliverable such as 1280 x 720 Pro Res 422 (HQ) or a 720 h.264 file?

I tried exporting a 5 minute show to 720 h.264 using Adobe media encoder and it said it would take 20 hours or more to export. I let it run for about 5 hours and when I went to check the progress it had hung up about a quarter of the way and would not progress past that.

Obviously that amount of export time is unacceptable. What have you all been using (AME?) and what is your workflow? Should I be exporting an XML and then transcoding the R3Ds in Premiere before exporting to my final deliverable?

    Thank you for any help.

14 min. takes about 20 min. to render for me with an i7 970 Hackintosh.

What system are you working on, and do you apply a lot of effects to your shots?

This was just a test export so there were no effects other than dissolves. I'm using a Mac Pro 2 x 2.8 Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 18 GB of Ram

Are you exporting to Pro Res or H.264? Are you exporting directly from Premiere via AME using the original Raw R3Ds?

    Thanks

Here's another OS X user (for some reason, most of the problems I see are on OS X), having an export issue:

My advice is the same (2nd post), switch to the Adobe sub-forum for better answers, and try outputting to an image sequence, which you can then process for your final output resolution.

Yes, I export to Prores 422
Have you left "Render at Maximum Depth" and "Use Maximum Render Quality" checked? Because these two will increase render times a lot

Use compressor for h264 encoding, for some reason I get cleaner encodes at less data rate and faster encoding.

To go out to ProRes it seems to take about 2x the program length for me. This is on a 8core 3ghz, 12GB of ram mac pro

I appreciate the suggestions. Snce I posted I have been doing some experimenting. I think I have a good solution. I have created a 1080P sequence instead of trying to work from a 4K red sequence at 50% scaling. The new 1080P sequence allows me to see a cleaner sharper playback at 1/4 res and the renders seem to be much faster within the timeline. I will try exporting from AME this evening after i wrap my session. I'll let you know results tomorrow.

Thanks again for all our help!
