I am just finishing off my film and would to see it in a new cinema due to open in my town, I would like to know what format to deliver in, I think it's a 4K sony projector . I am happy to ask the question to the cinema manager, but would like to be better prepared when i ask,
it might indicate I know something about the subject! I am hoping I can get it shown while they are testing there new kit.

Digital projectors for commercial exhibition are fed a signal via servers that ingest the "Film" in a DCP package. Some theaters depending on the servers may also have the facility to read Blu-ray files. DCP encoding is usually relegated to post facilities that has the computers and software to build these packages. If you feel daring, look up DCP (Digital Cinema Package) delivery or DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives). My limited understanding of these formats is principally to serve up the film in a reasonably manageable (compressed) and secure format to prevent unauthorized use.

You may want to have a 3rd-party company prepare your DCP for you, because there's a lot of potential ways this can go wrong if you've never done it before. One company I know will do satisfactory work is Quvis in Topeka, Kansas:

I just had a quote for 1400 dollars for 47 minutes . I have tried a small scene using the open source program it seemed to process ok but Can't be sure it will work in the cinema projector untill I can test it.
