Really nice post! I appreciate these kind of grateful posts that helps us remember why we love the whole RED Team (apart from the cameras they make and their awesome customer service).

Five years ago, I was assisting in a music video in England when the director told me about this crazy man from Oakley who was making an impossible camera that would shoot 4K. I thought that was nuts and would be really expensive. One year later, frustrated about the digital technology and the "elitists" prices to shoot film in Spain I was looking for a camera that gave me the quality and the feel that film supplied. That's when I remember the story that director told me. I googled for it and, finally, I found a web (red.com) and a little trailer (Crossing the Line) and I felt dizzy with emotion. I went to the store page... and it was really affordable!!! I almost fainted out!

Then I logged into Reduser.net to find more and fell in love with these community. A couple of months later I placed an order for my beloved RED ONE (which is still with me) and, eight months later, it arrived and my career and dreams became true!

I know you guys at RED hear this a lot, but I'm one of those grateful people to whom you returned the joy for creating images. Never stopped since. So a big thank you to all of you involved in this venture, the ones we know most and the ones we almost hear of. Big kudos and thanks!

    Cheers!

A few days later, I was on a flight out to Japan for Interbee. Kaku was my host and I told him about this crazy idea.

On the first day there, I took Ted Schilowitz out to lunch (a sushi lunch he would never forget).

I also contacted Graeme Nattress, Stuart English and others and after a few months, Ted and I devised a business plan for the "O-CAM".

Jim's dream was much, much bigger. I eventually told Jim that I had to get back to filmmaking. I kind of thought he was a bit nuts.... He would probably agree that he is (mad scientist).

Today: 7 years, 9 months and 26 days later, I am drinking wine, watching the Olympics and learning how to use my new EPIC!

Jim, I admire you so much for what you've done. I know you didn't do it alone, Jarred and many others helped... but it is your vision and your genius that gave birth to this marvel of technology.

I don't think it's bad luck to say the following but on the contrary, I believe it contributes to forging reality: Soon, I will open a bottle of champagne when you win your Scientific & Technical Academy Award.

Thank you and congratulations Jim. I am in awe of what you've created.

Great story Fred, about time you told it... ;)

An other little piece of the puzzle that has now become our believed RED, not just a camera, but a company, a community, an History of things that keep us together in a ride for our lives, which have individually been changed because of the passion for our Industry that brought us together with one single element in common "RED ".
