    Hi all,

Could someone chime in on the best workflow for roundtripping between Premiere and RedCine-X? I've come to really like grading in RedCine-X and have chosen it as the grading platform on my current job. However, roundtripping between Premiere is proving to be a problem.

After sending to RedCine via either XML or EDL all is well, I grade, then try and send back to Premiere. I either get a sequence that shows the clips but the viewer shows nothing but black, or I get an empty sequence. I'd do the conform in RedCine X if only it supported various speed/post effects like warp stabilizer, but it understandably doesn't, so I have to finish in Premiere.

What's the route to success when alternating between PP and RedCine-X?

    Thanks in advance,
    Drew

are your clips at 100% size? might be a small bug, so you would only need to adjust the size of a clip and copy it to the others.

I've fixed that problem for the next release.

For now, you can select all the clips in your timeline (ctrl+a), in the menu go to Clip > Remove Effects and remove any motion effects. This should reset the clips to 100% scale.

    That's great David.

Another ways of adopting the color grading in REDCINE-X Pro is that you choose the preference to save the RMD, do the color grading, just go back to your original Premiere Project then the R3D clips on your premiere timeline would conflict the RMD that REDCINE-X Pro has saved automatically (unless you have saved custom RMDs in Premiere Pro before you have sent the XML to the RCX Pro).

I can vouch for David working diligently on FCP/PPro/RCX importing and exporting. In general, don't ask developers for dates; they won't be accurate. However you don't need the next build to do it. It isn't ready for round tripping anyway. What it is ready for is to meet your needs.

In PPro, export your project either as an EDL or fcpxml.
In RCX, import to a timeline, or bin or both, whichever works for you.
    Grade and save the RMDs.
Use the handy utility that was just released by Angelo to tell PPro to reload all the RMDs:

Unfortunately that program doesn't work, at least for Mac.

It's a handy idea, but has limited potential. In many instances footage cut from the same R3D will be graded quite differently, so a universally applied grade doesn't help too much.

Roundtripping a timeline where the graded metadata is maintained for each instance of an R3D would be the best case scenario, I'll gladly wait for the next RedCine-X if this is a possibility.

I just want to double-check that I'm not missing something, Alchemy Group color grading changes (alchemy, clarity, skin) made in RCX don't get propagated to PP CS6 right? It looks like pretty much everything else does, except for maybe film grain?
