It was tough installing the newest Cuda software and the Red Epic Importer for CS5.5 until I found this:

Now I have the gt 650m hacked in for MPE and it's all looking FAST!

    10.8?

    Brave people.

Put it this way; I consider 10.7 is now well-enough tested and well-enough understood, and am considering upgrading my main production machine to it.

Unless there's a compelling reason, be the last to upgrade, not the first!

early 2012 Macbook Air, crashing every time it's closed and reopened. I guess you could call that a sleep issue.

I have a Retina MBP and haven't had a single issue with any software I run (Adobe, Avid, FCP7, FCPX, Resolve, RCXP, R3D Data Manager, etc.). Make sure you have the latest drivers and versions for everything. And Mountain Lion has been noticeably/much faster than Lion. Very impressed.

People really can stop being so paranoid about upgrades with them coming out much more often. Small problems get fixed way more often, and the actual upgrade process gets more and more streamlined.

That said, if it is a work machine and you have some free time, it is simple enough to clone your current system drive to another one, do a direct upgrade on the clone, and see how things go. This is even easier as many people are using a Mac Pro with easily replaceable drives. It is always a good idea to do a full clean install and reinstall all of your apps/tools/preferences but with 10.8 a direct upgrade (normal App Store install and upgrade) I have had zero issues amazingly. The variety of applications and tools I use would boggle many people's minds, and somehow it all works correctly, and in many cases works much better.

If you are still on 10.6 I would definitely suggest to just skip Lion all together. Not because I had any major issues with Lion (for many things it was better for me than 10.6), but because 10.8 is fantastic.

It seems that many start-up apps are causing occasional "black screen of death" system hangs after log on with Mountain Lion. I've confirmed that RED Watchdog will occasionally trigger this issue. The problem is wide-spread and lots of apps are triggering the issue. Several work-arounds exist at the moment, like auto-login or loading the problem apps after log-in.

Jeff: it at least installed fine on an early 2009 Mac Pro I have sitting here ;)

We've been testing with REDCINE-X PRO on Mountain Lion for a while now and things seem fine. We've not seen the Mountain Lion black startup issue yet internally. For people who've missed it, the latest RCX PRO beta also supports the new retine macbook.

    Rob,

As I've dug into the black screen issue more, it looks like it affects the 2012 Macbook Pro and the 2010 Macbook Pro the most. With Mountain Lion officially available for a week now a lot of the theories seem to be solidifying on an issue with graphics switching in the GDI with the discrete GPU involved is an nVidia chip. At any rate, the problem looks to be entirely an Apple issue. Many applications are triggering it. I'm not even sure if this thread is warranted because I've been able to trigger it on my Macbook Pro retina by loading just about any resident app on start-up -- RED Watchdog, Growl, etc..

I'm expecting a fix from Apple by monday. ;) If not, they're really dropping the ball on this one.

BTW, loving RC-X 16's retina support!!!

Watchdog and Growl are fine on startup and beyond on this end on Retina + TB monitor. Sorry you're having a bad go of it, I've had smooth sailing so far on ML, all programs seem to run just fine.

I have not had this black screen issue at all with any apps on my rMBP with Mountain Lion installed. I tried it on both of the rMBP I've had so far.
