  1. #1 first scarlet music video feedback please
    http://youtu.be/sLaRj89u0Qc?hd=1

Super new to the red format. I am looking for some honest feedback not from a creative standpoint more from a cinematography standpoint. I shot it on my scarlet with a tokina 11-16 and zeiss 50 1.4. I still feel that Im not getting the best out of my system. Not sure if its how im handeling it in post/grading etc. This was shot and edited in the same day.

    few questions

    1. Do you think PL will give me a more polished look instead of the canon glass? I feel like the qualitys good but not quite up there with some of the stuff I see coming out of LA from colin tinley etc.
    2. Is there any tutorials/trainings in redcinex you can suggest.

    Thanks for your help.

Your lenses will make little difference - although you should rent a bigger kit (more Canon primes) than that.

1 - Credits go at the END - too many credits up front you test the viewer's patience.

2 - Lighting. Outside does not mean no lights, it means even more lights because you are fighting the sun. It's actually cheaper in many ways to shoot at night and get a glossy look.

3 - A master needs many shots, not just one set-up/approach.

4 - That location for the master (master means when the performer performs) is not exactly spectacular.

    5 - Girl looks good.

6 - Go to film school, read more on filmmaking. This video shows you don't yet know what you need to to totally shine as a director. You could learn, and become way better.

7 - What is the concept, exactly, of this thing? Do you feel it is original? Top-level directors spend many weeks perfecting concepts and shotlists. Did you?

    Thanks Rob.
I appreciate your candid feedback. This video was really done on a whim with no concept in mind thats why i said ignore it from a creative standpoint. Unfortunatley these artist are now following the maybach music group promo style where they need a promo before and after i agree it can be annoying but it works for them. Thanks for your insight. Any online schools you could suggest?

Picture starts at like, 45 seconds in. Internet generation is already watching something else. Refer to Rob, he's on it.

But they don't need your name before.

Any time you shoot, you should make an effort to put ideas and hard work into it, as much as tiem allows. Shooting something with no concept and then showing it here makes people think you have no ideas, especially if the thing has your name on a giant credit right up-front, implying that you're very proud of the thing and think it is the best you can do.

There are no legitimate online schools for directing. Read American Cinematographer (all issues, back to 1940s - I did). Then enroll in a real film school if you are serious. A University - not some "professional school". It's worth it.
