Love the look and feel - Just one question - The grain is from glass or from high iso? Other than that - very ineresting.

These were shot with Old Carl Zeiss Arriflex lenses with PL mount adapter on the EPIC. Mostly with a 32mm f/2.2.
I love the look of old glass on the EPIC. It adds more organic feel to the images.

These were all exported as Tiffs and edited in Aperture.

    The grain comes from everything...

The angie is very grainy, the b-speed is quite smooth

But it is all natural light, which basically means bonfire and candles in the night images...
Mostly it is 2500 iso @rlf which is the startingpoint for the night images.

Additionally I have added grain to the. B&W's in lightroom...

Mostly they have gone tiff rlf to lightroom, though some have been finnished in rcx
Life is good. So is RED...

    This is a great thread.

We have all of our Epics set up with A mount specifically so we can access all manner of Glass. Our hope is to promote Photo-Cinematography which actually is noting more than Wildlife Cinematographers have been doing for years with Stills lenses on Motion picture cameras. Our current preference is Leica lenses, Mostly Leica R but we are hunting for older Leica glass with out the high contrast coatings, our hope is to learn from James Ravilious work who we are told preferred uncoated or single coated lenses rather than the new multicoated lenses when he was working. We have some older Canon FD glass, Nikon Glass and hopping to get the loan of a set of Super Baltars shortly.

I agree, older lenses and Epic do seem to compliment each other very well.

I really love the combination of old glass and RED cameras. So much texture and life is added to the image in my opinion.

After shooting stills with EPIC and iPhone so much recently I hardly
pick up my canon any more. I've fallen in live with the much more organic look you get with both of these cameras vs the super sharp clean clinical images from the 5D and canon glass.
I really like the grain structure of the epic. Not sure how to explain it but even though there isn't as much latitude for adjustment as with Canon RAW the image seems thicker or something. You have to approach post differently but I sure live the results :)

I have only worked with the Epic and Scarlet 4 times now, but I've been putting old Nikon Primes (and a cheap old Nikon 100-300 5.6) from the 70's on - and I love the imagery. The old lenses seem to 'soften' the image a bit -which I personally like in most situations. These are still pulls from a shoot in San Diego and the surfer is from Indonesia shooting through HEAVY mist from the water spray.

All these are pulled from a lower resolution quicktime file - much of the image degradation is from the compression - not the original image.
