  1. #1 Redcine-X Pro alternatives
Are there any alternatives to RCX-P? I don't mind paying. I just can't take the crashes any more. After successfully exporting a clip, I had over a dozen crashes in a row. The last time I opened it, I tried to enable verbose logging and my computer crashed before I got to the menu. So I don't even want to fix it now, I just want to make my film. Any software recommendations would be great.

PS: RCX is great at what it does, and I'm glad it's stable for most people. But it isn't for me.

Just an observation - the easiest path forward might be to figure out why it isn't stable for you and fix it.

    Hi Suhail,

Lets start with any log files you do have. If you can send those to redcinex at red along with a system report that would be very helpful. Also include if you can any steps you take that can recreate the crash.

    Thanks,
    David

Thanks. I'll send a log when I next open RCX.

I agree with Terry. Given the sheer amount of data involved, it's a pretty impressive program. It is very stable software. If it's crashing on your system what makes you think any alternate is going to run any better?

If it were my system I would follow this general process:
    - Work with David and send him everything he asks.
    - Identify what crash means. If crash means the whole system goes down, you are looking at flakey hardware (video card, memory, or harddrive most likely), problematic video drivers, too much heat, OS instability/corruption, or malware. If just RCX crashes but the system is fine, the logs and working with David will be critical. Some of the above may still apply, especially memory or disk problems. Look in the OS logs for hardware messages.
    - As general maintenance, I would run a malware scanner (Malwarebytes.org on windows), update the video drivers, run a memory test with memtest86 or memtest86+ - atleast two full passes, get a heat monitor (openhardwaremonitor.org on windows) and run prime95 or an equivalent stress test, and run chkdsk/fsck, then a disk bench marking utility to see if heavy disk use causes any flakiness.
    - Consider how you use your system and where you tax it. Consider that everything else you do on your system may be a light load, say internet and email. If you open up RCX, it is taxing the video card, processors, system heat distribution, memory, and disks. What other things do you do that taxes those? Can you cause crashes in other programs taxing any of the subsystems independently?
