    Hi Guys,

I'm looking for recommendations for a good ladder dolly, ideally I'd love something that could also mount 3-point attachments for a tripod, but that's a secondary concern to build-quality, speed of setup, and smoothness of movement.

Also, can anyone comment on the performance and durability differences between the skate-wheel type ladder dollies and the aluminium + silicon o-ring types?

    Cheers

I've used the CamTram for years and love it. So easy and versatile, I've run it on a couple pieces of conduit found on the beach to handrails on a stair case. Totally worth the investment

    Agreed - an exceptional tool.

Plus, unlike any skateboard, you can run it with the head inverted.
Great method to get an overhead shot using only a couple of pipes...

These people in Sweden have a really nice one. Very reasonably priced also. Under a grand for the whole works.
You may want to check it out.

    Mark,

Have never been exposed to the inline - but once I clicked on the link, I saw many of the design characteristics of the CamTram - but the build quality looks vastly inferior.
It is a bit less than half the price, but I guess you get what you pay for.

When I make equipment decisions, I go for quality and reputation. I've had my CamTram since the time they came to market. No failures, no repairs.
Expect I'll probably retire before it does. To me - that is a major factor. If I find a tool I like, it's even more valuable when it lasts for many, many years.

In any case, check them out first. Try to rent both (or more) for a day each time. Compare them - learn what works for you.
You will not regret taking that path - well worth the small investment.

Here is a link to the CamTram site: http://www.camtramsystem.com/ AbelCine sells them, lots of people rent them.

+1 for the Camtram. It uses easily sourced components, like 80/20 extruded aluminum, so if you need to adjust it to other uses you can. I adapted it once once to run down the railing of a stairway for a cool descending shot. Cost 70 bucks to get the parts I needed.
There is a very nice underslung option offered by Camtram as well. It's inexpensive and the parts/cutout fit into the lid of the original case.

CamTram is the way to go without a doubt. Combine that with the Track In The Box (www.TrackInTheBox.net) which is specifically designed for it use and you've got the best possible solution.
