I am getting a 28mm, 50mm, and 90mm Leica set. I am trying to figure out whether to go for the 19mm leica or save some money and get the Tokina 11-16 for my wide angle. Any thoughts out there??

Get the Tokina. The Leica 19mm is fantastic, but on the Scarlet, I think you'll want the "more wide" of the 11-16.

Oh, and enjoy those Leicas! :D

Thanks for the advice. Is there anything I can put on the 19mm to make it wider?

19mm is a more useful focal length, IMO. The 11-16 range is for "special occasions" for me. But this is all preference.

Optically, I'd guess the Leica is better, and more in tune with the rest of the set. But the Tokina is excellent as well.

You need both really, completely different lenses for different usage.

The rehoused 11 16mm are great, Duclos, as always lead. If you can stretch to that and the queue is long anyway use a standard Tokina lens on an A mounter other nikon Mount with Iris control.

The more useful lens is the 19mm Leica preferably the mk2. if you want something wider the 15mm f3.5 is a nice lens, there is a zeiss version of it but the Leica only differs in it has Lecia coatings. Id like to get a 15mm f2.8 which is Shneider design but huge cost. id like to know if the new Zeiss 15mm is compatible.

On the other Leica's, The 24 is OK, the 28 mk2 is outstanding, any of the 35s are good. We use the 1.4. The 50mm E60 is better than the E55 but really a different lens. E60 are astronomic in cost. We prefer the 80mm but the 90mm is very good, Apo stellar.

We aacualy like the 135mm its not as good as the new lenses but for the money its fine. The 180 mk2 is very good also. The macro 100mm f2.8 is a class leader.

I agree with Jake. You need both.

I would start with the Leica 19mm. It is a more useful length. It's a big jump from 16-24mm. Also, you want to have a matched set of glass. And the 19mm V2 is gorgeous. It is also a manual lens vs. the Tokina.

I just completed my Leica R set. The 19mm V2 was my first purchase because I knew it was great, and hard to find. I would only consider the V2 - much better than the earlier version.

    I have the 19mm v2, 24mm, 28mm V2, 35mm Summilux f 1.4, 50mm Summilux E60 f1.4, 80mm Summilux f1.4, 90mm APO Summicron f2 ASPH, 100mm APO Macro, 135mm V2 (yes there are two versions), 35-70mm Vario ASPH f2.8, 70-180 Vario APO f2.8, and a 280mm APO Telyt f2.8.

All are or will be cinemoded by Duclos with Canon Leitax mounts.

I plan to by the 11-16 Tokina V2 in Canon mount as soon as it is available. (hey, it's cheap compared to the Leicas!) That will give me an 11mm to 280mm focal range.

I have the Dulcos Tokina in PL mount, but want it in Canon so I can go with all Canon mount glass on one or more EPICS.

    Enjoy the Leicas!
