Will this lens work on the RED?

    Contax Zeiss Sonnar T 85mm f/2.8

I am thinking about buying it for my DSLR, but I am also planning for the future as Id like to use this lens on other cameras other than my dslr.

I know my canon dslr camera needs an adapter for it to work.
In order for it to work on the RED, what kind of a mount would I need for an adapter to work on it?

That lens will def work. Im sure nick morrison will tell you all about it :) but ive got a full set of contax zeiss primes for my Scarlet. they are incredible. I just use a fotodiox adaptor and its really strong and great quality. I never take it off the lens though once its on.

After that sir, you are good to go. :)

So, it can only mount to a camera with a Canon mount then?
    What about the RED One?

If the Red One has a Canon Mount, then yes. Canon and PL are the two most prevalent mounts on Scarlet/Epic currently (soon to be joined by Leica and Nikkor).

No, it doesn't have a Canon mount. It would be a PL mount on the Red One.
So, there isn't any kind of an adapter to make it work on a PL?

There may be some cy to pl adaptors but im sure you will be paying a lot more for those. Good luck and let me know what you find :)

This may be beyond normal, but what if you have two adapters?
Lens to Canon, Canon to PL mount? - Im more certain there is a PL mount from a Canon than the CY to PL

The back focus on PL is much further than either CY or Canon so no- it won't work..

Hey Michael, as Domenic said, you can use a Fotodiox EOS adapter to put the Contax 85 2.8 on any Canon mount camera - whether it be a Scarlet/Epic/5D/C300, etc.

For the RED ONE, the Allstar Sytem is a good bet, as it will let you use the Contax interchangeably with PL glass (as it will on the Epic/Scarlet too, fyi).

Nice lens, btw. It's a classic sonnar design, that is very sharp (and contrasty) even wide open. I have a really old AE copy, and it flares AWESOME.

    Hope this helps.
