Hi everyone. I just pulled the trigger and purchased a RED Scarlet package last Friday and now just patiently waiting for it to arrive in the mail. The wait is killing me. I've been away from serious creative/film making for 7 years but am ready to jump back into it full time and I have a question for you all. I will likely for the next few months just be getting a feel for the camera and taking on small jobs, nothing major. I haven't purchased the Red Mags yet and expect to do so after the price drop. Thinking about purchasing a 256GB Red Mag. Would you suggest I go with two 128GB ones instead? Has anyone here ever had one of the mags fail? I would hate to be on a job and lose all of the footage if I had it stored on just a 256GB. But then again I think having the larger card would be great in not having to swap out so often. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hey, congratulations! You're gonna love it.

I think it's best to have more than one card, especially for offloading on site. If you only have one card you can't swap out to a different one while downloading the other. I have 4x 64GB cards and it works out great. Great to have a 3rd one to fall back on if the first 2 are still not downloaded.

Thanks Dominick! Yes I was thinking about that if I wanted to offload on site it would be best to have two cards. I also enjoyed the video on your website.

Two cards for sure. Don't worry, they have never failed me.

    Hi Samir,

Having multiple cards is the safer way to go and it could speed things up on set. Setting a percent limit on fill capacity is a good practice as well. That way data copy doesn't become a bottleneck. The likelihood of something going wrong with a mag is very low, but you can buy a little insurance by getting your data off the cards and backed up (2-3 copies) as soon as possible.

Have fun with your new camera!

Yeah 2 cards is def. a minimum amount of cards. And with the cost of cards going down then you can afford a third one soon!
