SDI out feeds full sensor FOV when look around is enabled.

Samurai is now recording full sensor FOV to 1080p ProRes...not as good as 5k of course, but it definitely makes the Atomos even more useful.....stwooooooooops!

My TV clients are going to love this.

Does this mean no more black bars when recording with the KiPro Mini or the Sound Devices Pix 240? That would be rad.

    Yeah, that's a forklift tattoo. I wasn't always a cinematographer :)

That's supposed to be the case with this new firmware. But what Dane is saying, above, is that rather than have the 4K area of the sensor be what sends over to the Samurai or the Pix, you get the full field of view of the sensor.

This means you get wider angles form your wide angle lenses, shallower depth of field for the angles you would have had, and an overall more "cinematic" look from the images. Just watch out for vignetting from certain lenses, is the main word of warning.

Do you have examples of this?

Just spent some more time testing it out...it is working like a charm, just enable look around with SDI clean output, no blackbars on the samurai (not sure about the other devices) with FOV of the whole sensor...oooh my 19mm leica just got soooooo much better!

    Thank You RED!!!

    That's the good...

BUT, I'm having serious issues with the Beta Firmware, once I shut down the camera after the 1st time it has started up after the firmware upgrade the camera will no longer start up. I have reflashed the firmware 4 times now with no luck. The camera will not start back up after it's initial start up. :(

I have reflashed the camera with the release firmware which has been rock solid for me. Hoping there is a fix for the newest firmware, I'd love to get using it!

FYI, 4k is (22.1x11.7mm) which is the same as Academy-35 (22x12) so it all depends on your definition of "cinematic."
    5k is (27.6x14.6mm) which is larger then 3perf-S35 (24.9x14mm).

Seems my camera wasn't liking presets I was loading from previous builds. I went though and recreated all the presets within the new build and the camera is rebooting properly.

    Hey Dane

This is a big deal ! I was actually hanging off on the Samurai until they sorted this out ............now all they need is to have the same file handles as SSD files.

Mmmm maybe I should jump in now as it would be nice to have it for a job @ the end of the month.

That's a recorder issue, the file names are available in the HD-SDI metadata.

Do you mind opening a support ticket and sending in the presets? This sounds like a pretty annoying bug.
