  1. #1 The Red Shooter List
Big disclaimer right up front, this is Not an order list. So please only list relevant owner info.

This is a list of owner/operators of any red cameras in cities around the world

Richard H helped put together this form/google doc so everyone can add themselves whilst not being able to alter anyone else's info. This list is locked and will NOT be opened for public manipulation, once your info is in, it's unchangeable. so please get your info correct(it's grade school easy with the form)

It's as easy as filling out this form, should take under a minute:

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...Sm9MTl9vQ0E6MQ

and once submitted you will show up in the list:

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...VJfSm9MTl9vQ0E

Eventually the list will migrate to a system which will allow for each person to update/change their info without any access to anyone elses info, more on that later. Hopefully this comes in handy when anyone is in need to call in some extra red troops

    Enjoy!

Not to throw a blanket on what may be a wonderful idea on one side of the coin - but I am worried about the other side.

This could become a very high risk document / database if it is accessible to criminals. And from first glance - it certainly would be.

Could those assembling this document please tell this community what controls / safeguards are being built in?

Especially since they warn us that "once your info is in, it's unchangeable" -
Before you enter the information, please consider the consequences carefully if your investment is published to the world. We have seen some losses. Need to reduce that risk.

im entirely in agreement. the list is locked and unchangeable so that antics of others messing up other people's info/the entire list doesn't happen. the obvious drawback is that once you enter your info you can't change it. but i'm working on a system that will fix that and add a even put a message system in between everyone's email and the public. for the moment though, if anyone is concerned about their email address i would suggest entering [AT] in place of @.

And if anyone would like to suggest anything, by all means. this is meant to be useful, Richard and myself will do everything possible to make it so, everything except unlocking it ;)

Safety is a huge concern of mine as well which is why not all information is required. You can put in as little info or as much as you'd like. An alias for your name or an email address created solely for rental purposes is fine. If you'd like to change your info and it's already in there, let me know and I can change it. Hopefully it won't be any more dangerous then the Scarlet Camera Names List or the NY Rental Owners Group which has your full name and your gear listed.

The purpose of this list is to make it easier to access the RED community. It's for last minute rentals, assembling unofficial meetings, and finding what is where.

Requiring to register and login to access the list could possibly help with safety concerns, but if you have any other ideas, please let us know!

I would say that a registration system requiring verified names to start.
    Log-in password - yes.
System set up to PM only by those that have verified identities (much like RedUser)

Might be wise to publish a set of guidelines to help people secure their identity and prevent loss right up front. Including your idea of an alias for the "publicly viewable document" is a good start. Ditto on the dedicated email - I use that technique just for client projects (far more efficient)

Top of the list should start with the geographic area based out of - no specific addresses listed for security concerns. RED equipment is everywhere around the globe - perhaps some drop downs starting with the continents and then narrowing it down to regions... That's a lot of work, but it will pay off in the long run.

Follow that up with: are they a rental house, production company, owner-operator, etc... You should know what type of entity you are starting a discussion with.

Recommendation: Pick a time frame to receive suggestions from the community as to enhancing the list. Give it maybe 2 weeks - maybe less or more - but hold up publishing just long enough to launch a product that will feel good to both you and the users. I'm sure you can get a hundred suggestions in the first week alone... Doesn't mean you need to incorporate all of them!
You already know that the types of support equipment will grow - Production tools will become a monster of it's own.

    Great idea guys.
Tweak it a bit and I think you will have a winner for everyone.

    Cheers!

Good points all, and believe me, it's being worked on ;)

theres even a beta of the eventual system in which i used the af100 shooter list as a test driver, and it does basically all of what you mentioned, but we're making a new system from scratch taking in all input thus far. this red list is a chance to have everyone's info ready to go so when we do switch to the new system, all everyone has to do is just retrieve their password from the system and change their info at will.

if i were to give a timeframe for the switch, i'd say 2 weeks at the soonest, 4 weeks at the latest. i'm very excited about it, as it should be of good use to all of us, but im also being very conservative and careful about how it's used. i despise spammers, scammers, and scum just as much as the next person, and that will be a big part of the eventual system.

for now, i think the main security concern is the unauthorized use of people's contact info, hence why phone numbers are not able to be inputted, and as i mentioned to [AT] email addresses. it's not perfect, but everyone can make their own choices for that, and names vs aliass', etc.. and we'll make the move toward internal messaging and verified names ones everything is up and awesome.

also, we could definitely use some beta testers, so if anyone is interested in that, do PM me.
