New to Red Rocket and Premiere here, but was assuming I could edit R3D files in Premier Pro CS6 and have the sequence play in real-time out the Red Rocket via SDI to my plasma…. Possible? Again, sorry if this is a basic thing, just can't seem to find how this is accomplished. Thanks for any help you can throw my way!

right click any r3d in your project bin and open up source settings. All the way at the bottom right there is a use rocket option. make sure that is enabled. Hope that helps

Sorry - the Rocket is used for debayer/decode, and significantly decreases CPU usage during timeline playback, but the SDI outputs aren't used by Premiere Pro. It has to do with the way the SDI ports are wired internally, if I remember. There's no way, for example, to have the card decode a frame, send it to the CPU/GPU for effects/scaling/transitions/etc, and then have the CPU send the frame back out the Rocket SDI port.

You will need to add a video board from Blackmagic Design or Aja to get SDI output from Premiere Pro.

Thanks for your input Karl and John. Any recommendation which card would be best for this system (MAC PRO, OSX 10.7.3, Red Rocket, 32GB Ram, CS6)?

    Thanks!

    Do you absolutely need SDI?
Have you considered just using a 2nd monitor / dual display for previewing RED files.
Simpler system configs have their advantages.

From RED: Real-time playback out SDi through RED Rocket only works while in RedcineX. Not having much luck with the Blackmagic card either. Feel like I am stumbling around in the dark. Going to post another thread with a broader topic to see if I can snag any leads. Thanks to everyone on this thread for their input.

    Guy,

I'm able to get playback from Premier CS 6 through my BM DeckLink card but only from 1080p sequences. Just for fun, I also ran DVI to my Flanders and was switching back and forth between the two connections... HD-SDI out of the BM card and DVI out of my system graphics. I didn't see a huge difference. I think you can totally get away with a DVI connection for editorial. That route does totally work with 4k sequences... actually I have a 5k 2.4:1 sequence that I'm working on right now playing out to the Flanders in real time. You just need to set the monitor for playback in the preferences. Instead of checking "BlackMagic" there like I did before I just checked "Monitor 3" (which is the Flanders connected via DVI))

    Cheers,
    CB
