Ouch! I worked with a performing arts center within a university for 20 years, wouldn't trade that experience for the world, I have dealt with many an arrogant professor in that time, but also some great ones. IMHO, the condescending ones are so used to dealing with and belittling 18-21 year old kids on a daily basis (that are no match intellectually), that they have a false sense of superiority and end up treating everyone that way.

Man, what that prof said would have really got my goat! Sometimes when they cross the line, esp in front of others, the gloves come off! Without skipping a beat I would have said: "Therefore reinforcing the wise old adage: Those that can't DO, TEACH!"*

*No offence to the REAL teachers out there who build and inspire people every day, not tear them down.

Haa haa! After all Marines shoot things too!!!

Picture the ASC, USMC style, in the voice of Gunnery Sergeant R Lee Ermey from Full Metal Jacket:

"YOU THINK YOU CAN CALL YOURSELF A CINEMATOGRAPHER JUST BECAUSE YOU BOUGHT A SHINY NEW CAMERA AND NOW RENT IT FOR POCKET CHANGE???? I BET YOUR THE KIND OF GUY THAT WOULD (BEEP) A PERSON IN THE (BLEEP) AND NOT EVEN HAVE THE (BLEEP)-(BLEEPED) COURTESY TO GIVE HIM A REACH AROUND!!!" Drill Sgt Hartman, USMC, ASC

Man, I have to go watch that film again right now!
