I'm still waiting on my Rouge zooms... I don't recall when I ordered, but I was originally told they would deliver late last year, then early this year, now being told August but I know people who ordered before me and are still waiting... Thought about buying second hand at one point, but going rate out there for used ones is a 20% mark-up over list price.

What kills me the most is I originally owned both of these zooms -- received the 16-42 not long after it was first released and I used them on one job I specifically bought them for and two small commercials after that. After a couple months of not being able to rent them (before people were familiar with them), I decided to sell them. Didn't bother me so much as they were the first release models that didn't play nice with MX 5K. I believe Angie will update the lenses though if you have the first release models... Now I don't rent anymore and my needs have changed, would really like to own them again. Can't get ahold of them and I'm about to throw in the towel since I haven't been shooting much the past month or so.

I have several DP zooms and two 24-290's on order. All have been 12+ months with no end in sight.
While I agree that still lenses can be useful for reasons that other users have stated in this thread, they are not well suited for much of the day to day work in narrative and commercial shooting.
There are some other nice options in PL glass, mainly from Fuji and Canon. The Fuji's are actually pretty nice, although a bit sterile for my taste.
    It's nice to have options!
I'm a bit of an Angie fan, as I already own a few copies of these lenses, but boy. The three-day work week and August holiday shutdown is no way to run a business. It makes things difficult for those of us running other businesses that depends on reasonably short lead times to plan and execute. What if the day after I get my 45-120, some improvement makes that lens obsolete, when I would have had 12-18 months to ROI if the product was only available when they first put it on the market???
Funny business we are in! ;)
    Cheers,
    Harry

I'm more of an owner operator anyways so the 17-50 makes sense but what about the BREATHING on this lens? From the samples I've seen, it looks pretty bad... Also, haven't seen many things online shot with it.. Does anyone have any work shot solely with the 17-50? I would love to see it.. Specifically on Epic 5k?

    Thanks!

We just got our Cooke Panchros. Took about 7 months. Red started this huge uptick in demand for cinema glass by making a cinema quality camera for relatively low price points...I blame them. :)

It looks like Red solved that issue with the 17-50 so it's for sure worth considering. I guess I'm looking at the Angenieux as a return on investment deal but at the end of the day, I'm a filmmaker, not a rental house. Do you have any work online that you're proud of with those Red lenses?
RED Zoom are so under-rated. Why wait when you can have 4 pin sharp RED ZOOMs for the price of 1 Rouge..... We have flogged 9 lives out of these lens in all types of conditions.... an they still keep coming back for more.
And the greatest thing is, if one dies... You chuck it in the bin and buy another one. (not that we have even come close to that yet)

A lot of RED ZOOM glass in these spots.

i'd also keep an eye out and if you can put in an order for that new eng pl fujinon. great range, great class. and you can have the option of taking off the servo zoom if you don't need it. pricing is pretty much the same as getting two DP's

We have the Optimo DPs and have had them from before anyone in the UK ...(by many months) and love them .... BUT that said I played with the 17-50 the other day and was very impressed. It held focus, looked sharp and focused unbelievably close... IF ONLY Red would consider upgrading the 50-150 to a Mrk2 model!!! They need the companion lens.. (look at the que for the 45-120, which we are in, and tell me there isn't a need)

What is intertesting is that when I 1st had the 30-80 nobody wanted it ever... I couldn't give it away... makes me feel the film industary is full of uncritical sheep.

not knocking the Optimo DPs (cause they are an amazing bargain and my zoom lenses of choice) but people should both check out the 17-50 and pressure Red to do a 50-150 mark 11!!!

    kind regards

    Michael
