I was in Fiji the other week working on a new surf film for the Vans Surf team. This wave came through in the afternoon and almost caught everyone inside.
As I swam in position with only a pair of swim fins I held the camera just above the water and filmed this once in a life time wave. This was one of the best waves to ever
break on the reef pass called Cloudbreak.

    Thanks Everyone for viewing it.

Well Cloud break is about 15 miles out to sea from land. It was also a random wave that caught everyone off guard. But you are right we were not in a ship.

Even a rouge wave reaches shore at some point...This video was not long enough to say that it wasn't a rouge wave. "Therefore rogue waves are not necessarily the biggest waves found at sea; they are, rather, surprisingly large waves for a given sea state". By definition we would have to know the mean height of the waves that day to know if it was a rouge wave or not. If everyone was surprised by its size then I'm assuming that this one was much larger than the mean wave height of that day and by definition would be considered a rouge wave that made it to shore. So give the man a break and enjoy the video.

    Aloha Daniel,

That's beautiful Daniel! Great to see such an amazing shot with your new housing. You had the right settings dialed in and were in a perfect position to get a real classic. What an amazing wave! Seeing "Cloud Break" going off like that's a treat - very nice - thanks for posting it.

    All the best...

    Aloha,
    Mike
