Anything new on the block? I was seconds away from pulling the trigger on the schneider platinum IRNDs but then I read a really bad review...

Currently in a city with only one rental house (panavision Calgary) so testing a variety is pretty much out of the question.

I've been putting this off for too long and REALLY need a set of IRND/Hot Mirror/White Water etc NDs

    Thanks!

I had the Schneider Plats...felt there was just a tad to much of a green cast to them with the heavier side ND's: 1.2, 1.5, 1.8.

Switched to formatts (per Phil's suggestion)with hot mirror and LOVE THEM!!!

You don't have any issues on the wide end with the Formats? I thought those are the ones someone on here reviewed that they were useless wider than 35mm.

I'd like to hear more about this too. Ryan what review did you read that was so negative about the Schneiders? this test seemed to favor them over other options: http://gettingelemental.blogspot.ca/...tion-epic.html

And I may be wrong, but I thought the hot-mirrors weren't a good fit for alexa? I'd like an all-camera-inclusive set if possible.

I can't find it anymore.. sorry.

I'm thinking going to go with the schneiders anyways. Good enough for me.

The Formatt's in extreme situations do have some optical funky things, but very extreme. I've only seen the color fall off/variation at 16mm. Not at 18mm, 20mm, or 24mm and above. I think as the optical quality is still high, but only in extreme backlit and ultra wide scenarios do you ever really see it.

It is most certainly better than stacking regular NDs with Hot Mirrors in front and it's actually cutting the IR light out instead of a counter filtration which is why I lurve them.

Can't seem to get the schneider's anywhere :(

Any other suggestions? I shoot wide most of the time so not being able to use a 16mm or wider ;) kills the formatts for me.

With the Epic I've had success with Tiffen IRND plus hotmirror. Bummer to have to use 2 filter trays but so far its the best I've found for Epic. I've heard some negative things about the Platinums for use with Epic. Interesting article here:

I've spent hours researching and the results are all over the place

    Tiffen
    Pro: Great filters
Con: Have to use an additional hotmirror on the stronger NDs.

    Schneider
Pro: Great for epic (no colour cast), rents well
Con: Terrible for epic (heavy colour cast)

    Formatt
    Pro: great neutral filters
Con: price and wide angle colour shift

    Panchro
    Pro: Most neutral filter
    Con: Possible ghosting

I've been looking at the Tiffen filters too. At what ND grade would you need the additional hotmirror? I'm planning on getting a 0.9.
