I love 2d movies. So much easier on the mind.

I went and watched Prometheus again last night but in 2d this time 3d last week.. Was fantastic. So crisp. I could only imagine what a 4k projection would be like.

Is 3D really worth the trouble and cost... ? 3d does not tell a better story, but post is twice as much to do so... Some one has to explain to me the logic and cost benefits weighing up the turn over and profits. The same amount of people would have watched Prometheus in 2d if that's all it came out in. Right... So why spend 30% more in making it.?

The 3d on Prometheus was a lot better than most other movies Ive watched... except for AVATAR.

Aside from movies like The Final Destination 3D and Piranhas 3d (which are more like a ride than a 'good' movie; they're just dumbass turn-your-mind-off FUN) I think movies like The Great Gatsby are going to both set the bar for creators, as well as show audiences whether or not 3D is a good idea.

People didn't like synced sound at first. People didn't like color at first. I feel like I can't just write-off 3D as a fad until we really start to figure out the new 'language' of shots for it. I've noticed in the Gatsby trailer that there's a lot more deep focus; rather than relying on depth of field to drive your focus to a character, it's using grading, subtle light cues, to draw the eye to what matters.

Pleasant surprise.
Saw the trailer before Prometheus and thought it looked like interesting film.
Nice example of Epic being used on what seems to be a more straightforward dramatic film.
Washington, Burgess, Zemeckis... Epic.
Nuff said.

Let me remind you all that Don Burgess shot "Book of Eli" on Red Ones (non MX) . First big budget film to do so. 80 million budget. Don has invested in buying Epics now.

So we can say big budget Hollywood does use Epics for more than 3D....

Zemeckis is my favourite director! 3 of his films are in my top 10 list of all time and I was really excited when I saw the 'Flight' trailer last week! Now I am even more excited!!

Looks like a great movie! Looked great on the big screen before Prometheus. Some amazing skin detail. I think the EPIC shines when not stuffed into studios with green screen.

3D is a great technique to tell stories, but most stories just don't need it.
One day technology will probably be perfect, everything will be in 3D and nobody will ever question it, but at this moment in time the artistic choice to go 3D has proven to be right in very limited cases (one of the best being "The cave of forgotten dreams").
