The SAMURAI works well with the EPIC.
Only issue I have with these boxes (and others) is the screens are not bright enough.
Make sure you buy a HOODMAN for it.

As long as you can use SDI, do it. HDMI can sometimes be a "bag of hurt" nno lock fragile and thick.

I'm not sure RED will ever transmit additional info (clip name etc.) via HDMI.

Get the Samurai – or the PIX if you want extra channels of excellent audio.
    Regards,

    Uli

My Red is called Vertov after a Russian avantgarde filmmaker, a pioneer in modern cinematography, a true revolutionary who later suffered under Stalin's bureaucracy.

Samurai is more suited to the Epic, but as of now there is no metadata, no d-tap and a really dark screen..
(also worth noting i never managed to get the epic to work in 1080 via HDMI with the Ninja only 720p..)

Ninja does NOT work with the Epic if you want 1080p. Already tried, and it has to do with that the Epic does not have a 50i feed for the HDMI.
