I wasn't trimming my r3d footage before going to my premiere/after effects steps ... and things were going a bit slow ... till I "found" (ok ... i'm sure all you experts been using this forever) ... the R3D trim export command.

It is speeding up my entire workflow, since when I load and scrub through long shots, it only has to look at a section of the r3d file (which btw is copied to a new file, so I can also save off all my footage I don't use). Any hot tips for using the trim command?

Re-posting, this time with the right account...
Unfortunately I don't have any tips for you, but I was wondering the same thing. Now that we have RC3 and RG3 support in CS6, I'm back into the RAW workflow. I would love to use this to its maximum potential, if I'm not already.

We use it to narrow down the source files before going into online. Kind of getting the offline XML and select export r3d trim with 10 frames head tails. Then we get all the used cuts nicely put in a folder each on the server and all the 3D guys can grab the clips right there and run them trough nuke. And I take the Same XML and conform into our flame. This is the fastest way I can think of to get a consolidated source. Then we backup this trim folder together with our CG renders and setups knowing we got all the needed clips etc. Sometimes our projects source files land on a high number of lacie drivers or such, then this function makes even more sense.

As I understand it's completely non destructive for the material... kind of the only way to make your own r3d...
