I know some of you are all pro "Red doesn't help anyone" so I think this will be a good test. If they don't, i'm out $ and that sucks. If they do, then they lived up to their word on the warranty. I'll keep you all updated as promised.

Chris I hope they take good care of you, but you know you engineered this post with only two conditions: Either you get it for free, or RED is breaking their word and has bad customer service. I'm sorry to say it's a little more complex than that.

The circuitry that is designed to protect the camera does not protect you from EVERYTHING.. I fried a camera pretty bad 2 years ago, and the fuze on the board blew, but not before there was some damage done to the board itself. The fuze can protect you up to a certain point, but there are some situations where it doesn't do the job.. I am not an electrician, but I have been told that to REALLY protect a board from just about everything would add an incredible amount of weight and cost.

So I hope you are not in the situation I was, and I hope you get what you are after and for no real cost. But there is another possibility out there, and it could be that the circuitry in the camera was unable to protect itself from whatever that current did to it. In which case Red will not be breaking their warranty, and you will have to fork over some coin. Now then if the warrenty says "Covered against all power spikes regardless of circumstances or current" then I stand corrected and you are in the clear.. But I'm pretty sure RED or any other company would not put that on paper.

Best of luck to you my friend

Pleased to announce it was covered by warranty. RED takes care of you, if it's within warranty that is lol.

and will shit own if an excess load condition occurs…
I think you meant "and will shit itself if an excess load condition occurs…"

Seriously, though, that stinks. We have a good number of brown and blackouts in our office park, so this is something I will be looking into.

What's the point of a $150 ($5) AC/DC power supply if it doesn't protect you from surges? Seems like it wouldn't add much to any weight or price. Certainly less than the added cost of a lemo plug.

Actually it was the port that was faulty.

So, it was the A/C plug that was the cause or your battery plate that did fry your camera? Curious, because I rarely use the A/C at all. If so, I may opt out completely.

    Like to know.
