  1. #1 Finally 1Beyond RED Wrangler
Shooting with 2Epics in 3D at 48fps was challenging and frustrating to have to backup on set then transfer home then go to LTO.

We went through 6 Mags (256) a day...that's 1.5 TB a day. The crew would get back to the office and try to secure the backup before the next shooting day. We have 8 (256) and 6 (64) but we prefer the longer form cards.

Anyway...picked up the 1Beyond Red Wrangler and BOOM, BANG, POW...on set dub, backup, and Archive simultaneously!!!! Yes!!!! Yes!!!! Yes!!!! Also the checksum of the LTO5 LTFS automatically runs and alerts to any discrepancies in the copy. So we can edit as soon as we're back at base or on the way back. Great! Just I load off the mind and members.

I am not a rep of this company but the system has saved so much in man hours and frustration. Hope this helps someone.

+1 for wrangler. I built mine for CS6/Resolve on set. Spectacular so far. Can even do video assist in a pinch.

Not a rep, just a happy customer.

What's the price range for these systems? Look pretty good.

Has anyone used the 1 Beyond Net Drive for RED? That looks like a perfect solution for me. Backup your SSDs immediately to LTO-5. You can also hook up an external drive to backup. Looks like it also has an internal drive that you can run Red CineX if you hook up a monitor. You can view your footage as soon as it's transferred. Pretty sweet.

I've used Wranglers extensively and have never had a good experience. They just aren't very robustly build.

To clarify my prior post, I was involved with a 3D shoot in india for 6 months and while the systems were capable performance wise we found them difficult to service in the field because of the case design. If you need to replace any component inside of them. (especially drive bays) do not attempt it in the field.

In full disclosure i was contacted by 1beyond over my posting. Further clarification by 1beyond was the units we worked with were suppose to be serviced but instead were sent to us by the rental house. The reason our units malfunctioned repeatedly is they hadnt been serviced (cleaning fans, be seating cards, etc) before they were tossed to the wild.

I think that's a moving target since they're completely customizable. In my case the cost went waaaaaaay up because I used the newest E2600 Xeon's and SSD's for all storage, no spinning drives, including 2+TB RAID. My Spidey-sense tells me they'd be a little below an HP Z820 system, but of course they're much smaller.

Comes with built-in RED SSD...very robust. Copied by the time we were onto the next roll(mag)

Thanks Tom for the clarification. I spoke to Terry Cullen at 1 Beyond about the product. Super nice guy and very helpful. Give him a call for pricing.
The Net Drive Red can also be used as a standalone backup for LTO in editing. It looks perfect for me. I can:

    1. Backup my SSDs in the field quickly to LTO5 while copying to an external simultaneously if desired.
    2. Back up all of my current external drives I have shelved to LTO5
    3. Archive all of my projects moving forward.

Looks like a perfect, portable solution from set to post. I'll definitely get one.

Just waiting on a final quote from 1 Beyond.

    Hey guys,

Another great thing about this company (1 Beyond)
I'm getting an iPad3 for monitoring to go along with the NetDrive just for mentioning that I heard about it on RedUser. Pretty slick. They said I was free to pass that info along.
I'll report back and share my thoughts once I have the system, but I think it's going to be great.
