I bought a really nice pair of Oakley's the other day that I am very proud of, the best shades I have ever owned, and also the same ones Denzel wore on the Book of Eli, which I didn't find out until afterwards.
I second Ketch... The team and camera is his legacy along with Oakley. What Mr. Jannard has done, twice now, has only been done a few other times (Sir Richard Branson for one). Jarred, Ted, and the rest of the gang who have been there from day one are the key holders. I am not worried though I wish Jim continued amazing health.
I believe it's called succession planning!
Build a solid company and it will thrive on its own assuming continued good management. Mr Jannard has demonstrated a solid and rare talent for doing just that with Oakley first, and now with Red.
I've never been an employee of Jim, Oakley, or Red - but I've known Jim since 1984. I was already fully on board the Red bandwagon way back in 2005. I was one of Red's first two customers - Mark Pederson being the other.
The above has provided me some clear insight into what motivates Jim. In my opinion Jim would never leave Red because he started Red out of his deep passion for cameras and shooting images. Nobody was making his ideal camera - so he decided to make it himself. He totally loves a good challenge - Oakley was his first big professional challenge, and Red was his second (and in my opinion final) big professional challenge.
If by chance Jim was to die or be seriously incapacitated I'm sure there are very solid transition plans in place for the Red company itself. Jim is a great team builder, and he has a stellar team in place. Red is here to stay - that should be a real source of comfort for Red fans, and a real source of heartburn for Red naysayers.
Long live Jim, Red Team, and Red...
1st off... silly thread. I'm not going anywhere.
2nd off... I'm not the most valuable person at RED. Jarred is. And he is not going anywhere. If something happened to me... there is Jarred. If something happened to Jarred... there is me.
3rd off... as long as Graeme, Rob, Kent, Mike, Stuart, Matt, Matt, Uday, Bimal, Brent, Nate and a host of others are at RED... you are fine. And they are not going anywhere.
So stop this silly nonsense.
Jim
