    Hi there.

    I apologize if it has been asked before but searched it and did not find the answer I'm seeking.

    S, I am training with Redcine-X Pro for a job and one thing we wanna use are the metadatas (scene, shot, take, copyright and anything else we can think of). So, ok, write it in RCX Pro, it creates the RMD file.

    Now I'd like to know how to use those in Avid, Premiere and FCP (I don't know yet what the editor will use) because in those softwares when I import my files (R3D or QT transcodes or Avid MXF transcodes) with all the way I can think of, I don't find my metadatas. In best cases I have "scene", "shot" and "take" columns, but they are blank !

    So, please, tell me what I'm doing wrong T_T

    Hi Bastien,

    Only applications that support RMD files or use our SDK are going to be able to extract metadata. Premiere supports RMD, and with Avid it can be passed through via an ALE file, for example. If you right click on a clip in a bin in RCX you can select Metadata which will show all known metadata for that particular clip. Some of the fields are editable, such as "Scene", "Shot", and "Take". You'll have to fill them in for that information to be passed into the RMD.

    Thanks,
    David

    Thanks for your help. I think I'm doing something wrong. I have filled the custom fields I need, saved the RMD file (just in case) and did an Avid MXF and AAF export. When I load them into Media Composer 6, I merge the ALE file but don't see my custom columns. Does it have something to do with the tape name being unfilled ?

    If it can help here are the informations I filled found into the RMD file (opened via Text Edit) :
    Code:
    <clipuserinfo>
            <userinfolist>
                <userinfo name="REDINFO">
                    <scene type="string" value="15"/>
                    <copyright type="string" value="Boulard Prod"/>
                    <take type="string" value="010"/>
                    <shot type="string" value="36"/>
                    <lens type="string" value="Zeiss CP.2 35mm"/>
                    <rating type="int" value="5"/>
                    <label type="string" value="none"/>
                    <video_slate_position type="int" value="0"/>
                    <poster_frame type="int" value="0"/>
                    <markers/>
                    <stills/>
                </userinfo>
            </userinfolist>
        </clipuserinfo>
    Does not work in Premiere CS6 either. I can see the "look metadatas" and some uneditable ones, but not the one I filled.

    (I have to admit this is the first time I need those)

    Hi Bastian,

    You'll have to check with the Adobe guys to see exactly what PPro supports in the RMD file. For Avid, we only include certain metadata at this time.

    I will continue to explore and try different workflows but I had good news last night : the movie editor will come to us. AT the beginning I was trying to figure out a way to use those custom metadatas because we were sending hard drives by carrier to a movie editor far away (in Paris, me beeing in Nice/Cannes) but since they decided not to go that way and to bring the editor here, I have less pressure :p

    But anyway thanks David for your help. ;-)
