  1. #1 Shot on SCARLET: Tether
Hi all, you might enjoy watching a sci-fi short we've finished called Tether. We shot it on our Scarlet mere days after it arrived in our hands. Some of you may remember me posting a few stills when we were in production.

Anyways, here is the link! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qo2iiqYFKBk

One of the better Scarlet shorts I've seen. Good acting too. Looks very filmic. Nice job.

Excellent short Niko. Very rarely do I see a Scfi short that's even half believable. This is very high quality and achieves it's intent of definitely making me want to see more.
Well directed, well written, well acted, well shot. Great piece of work.

Can you share a little BTS on the lights and lenses used?

    Best

Looks great! I've always appreciated your attention to detail, especially with the VFX, so it's no surprise how awesome the "tether" looked.

    Lookin forward to more stories.

Hi all! Glad you guys are digging the piece.

At the time of shooting this, we only had 3 lenses; The Canon 17-55 2.8, The Tokina 11-16, and the 70-200 2.8 IS2. We has a couple of screw-on ND and polarizer filters to bring the sky down a bit as well.

Everything was lit with natural light and the occasional use of a reflector. The Mysterium-X chip has just enough dynamic range to capture outdoor daylight and shade effectively, and the northern winter sun almost made the whole day feel like golden hour.

We have a lot of experience with natural light, and utilized it the best we could, making sure our scenes were oriented to work with the sun. We also relied on camera moves, framing, locations, and color-grading to stylize the piece.

By the way, the CamTram ladder dolly system is the best experience I've ever had with a dolly. I highly recommend it to everyone!
