  1. #1 Need File Help
I need some help/information about the RED ONE workflow.

    Here is my question:

When I take a video (let's say 24FPS and 30 seconds long) on a CF card, everything works fine. The video is shot and the card is stored...

Then when I get home and upload it to my computer (via the CF card reader) there is more than just one file.

If I only took one video, shouldn't there be JUST ONE file?

This is extremely confusing having multiple files, I don't know which ones to store or which ones to delete... Not to mention some are smaller than others. But they are all generally the same file.
    (Video wise).

When I play back in-camera is it creating a proxy for the camera to view/read? That could partly explain my confusion.
Albeit, it doesn't always do this. Sometimes I just shoot and there is only one file like there should be, except sometimes there are 3 or 4.

I just want a little information on how this works, hope you can help!

    Thank you!

    Simple answer:

You want to keep everything in the file/folder structure it is on the CF-card/disk/SSD exactly as it is.

    Longer answer:
takes are srtored in single folders, but the video file can be spanned over sevceral r3d's due to the fat32 formatting of the cards.

All relevant applications understand the filestructure of a RED magazine. Not all are happy with single files.

As to the proxies, I'd suggest you turn off in-camera proxygeneration, as that is a known bug source. If you need qt proxies for FCP/Color, they are better, quicker and more relyably being created in post through RCX-P.

    Hope this helps!

Yeah, all those extra files are probably just different size proxies generated by the camera. Ditto what Gunleik said.

    Yeah, that's a forklift tattoo. I wasn't always a cinematographer :)
