I'll be honest - Dragon disappoints me

It sounded very theoretical though... Like computer modeling.
Seemed to me that no actual sensor had been hooked up to epic electronics yet.

RED has talked about testing actual sensors for over a year now. This is the most recent quote from Jarred:

We have sensors.. but way before getting sensors out of the oven you develop the spec into the sensor design. With simulations and having smart engineers you have a pretty good idea what is going to happen before you even go into fab, and once you start getting test sensors back you validate. That is an incredibly simple explanation of the process... but should give you an idea of the process.

Everyone keeps saying "hopefully" Dragon has more sensitivity in the low-end. Jared stated back in April that dragon was already two stops more sensitive.

I really hope red pushes the envelop here, and creates a sensor ahead of competition with a true native 3200 ISO sensor, with the ability to shoot with the same DR and noise levels in 320 as well as 12500 iso, that would be really nice and hopefully a realistic target.

I absolutely agree. ARRI will probably have a new sensor around that time as well. I doubt their's will be available as a $6k upgrade though. ;)

I wonder if it would be possible to shoot Dragon 6K, and have the camera debayer internally, and output truly pristine, debayered massively hi-res 4K or 5K? Maybe not with the current processor, but ...

Would that appeal to anyone - smaller file size, higher quality?

I don't think a conversion from 6K Raw to 4K RGB would result in smaller file sizes. 6 is smaller than 4x3.

RED does listen, so the people who do need 6k and beyond feel like they need to defend it in this thread. If the thread was titled, "please release a 5k version of the Dragon upgrade as well" I think we would be less defensive.

BTW, this whole thread seems kind of pointless to me, since Red has already stated that the new Dragon sensor will have remarkable upgrades in ISO and DR. What else do you want them to do?
